Hey gang, just curious how much data do you use with your smart phones (iphone or other i wont judge) (trying to decide how much to get when i get my smart phone)

all depends on how much your connected to wifi during normal days. I am mostly connected to wifi and I have 500MB and it works for me.

I have 1 GB on my iPhone, but I travel a lot in the summers and have gone over that easily. I also have a 4G Sierra modem with 1 GB and it too has been exceeded more than once. Disclosure is that I upload my website daily from wherever I am. Using both to try and spread it out has cost me overages on both in a single month.

I have wifi at home and work, no problem so it would be for everywhere in between tho i might use the GPS capabilities in it.

I am with Virgin Mobile - I do not stream video, use maps, or download & use apps etc. on my Android phone however I send & receive hundreds of texts per month, and browse news & weather sites all the time while away from home. I don't use wifi with this device.

So far I haven't used more than 500 mb/month. Most of the time I do not even come close to that. My plan has 2 gigs of data per month and I will downgrade soon as with my comparatively miserly data habits I am throwing money out the window.

Most cellular providers have a data calculator on their website - try one if you haven't already done so.

I think 500MB would work for you. GPS doesn't use much data. What sucks data is the downloading of files that can add up easily. Normal browsing and checking emails you should be fine.

I use 2.5 GB often enough, particularly during the winter but that's because I tether and often have to download and upload large files when i'm travelling and find myself on bus routes without wifi. Months I don't tether, i never exceed 1GB.

Well i'm still unsure just a toss up in my mind either get the higher and if after a month or so if i'm not using it to go the lower. or get the lower and if i go over switch to the higher.

I think Rogers gives you lots of free data for the first few months. You can then judge for yourself.

I have wifi at work and at home so rarely go over 200 mb. That may change with photo stream.

Note, if you are using a Rogers hardware upgrade plan, much of it depends on you buying a minimum of 500gig data, so the $10 flex data plan does not qualify.

As a reference on the other end - doing my normal work on line and being conscientious about sending photos and uploading to the photo site have managed to use 3gb in a week.

Now I think my stupid mail set up is partially responsible but I'm using a mifi modem for this and working on a laptop for many hours a day.

If the phone is not tethered then a modest amount is okay - as mentioned I think Rogers has this one month try out your levels.

One thing I do not like here in Australia is you cannot move up and down easily - you can move up - but it sticks.
That's why I got the pay as you go modem.
