As the title states, my Epson RX 595 suddenly started to print double characters.

Yesterday morning everything was fine, then later, everything I print is printed twice with the second character about a 1/32 inch to the right of the first one - ie, overlapping.

Happens on all the documents I print, email, Excel, Word - in Excel I print a spreadsheet and the vertical lines are nice and straight but a second vertical line is printed just to the right of the first one. Also of course all the characters are duplicated just to the right.

Replaced the cartridges, did a head cleaning, did a head alignment even though I didn't think any of these would really address the problem - head alignment really corrects the problem if the vertical line printed is jagged.
Here the characters are well formed, they just print twice with the second time a bit offset to the right.

I also turned off the printer, even unplugged it for 30 seconds. Also shut down the Mac and rebooted.
All with no effect.

One suggestion I see via Google is to try a different USB cable, haven't tried that yet.
Anyone ever run across that on any printer?
what could be a possible fix?

PS: Tried a different USB cable.
Same problem.

Print Preview BTW looks perfect so I assume the Mac doesn't create the problem.
Maybe reload the print drivers?

Well, I finally got this fixed.

Tried to just make a copy - still the double characters - that eliminated the Mac and the USB cable as a possible source of the problem.

Then I just cleaned the heads a few more times and suddenly everything is as crisp as can be with the double characters gone.
