: Keynote sync Mac > iPad via iCloud

I am hoping someone here can help me out as I am stuck!

You see in the Apple adds that with iCloud you can make a change on a keynote doc on your Mac and it will apear on your iPad, well I can't figure out how to make this work.

I have a presentation that I am creating on my Mac in Keynote (of course) I have connected my iPad to my computer moved the file over to my iPad and I can open, play and edit it on my iPad but changes that I make on either device are not sync'd to each other even though when on my Mac I see that the file is in iCloud when I check in system Pref's I also on my iPad choose to share it via iDisk then logged into iCloud on my mac downloaded the file that had the changes on my iPad but when I made a change on my iMac no change was shown on the iPad.

I think I am missing the step of how to sync on my iMac as when ever I make a change on the iPad I see that there is an arrow and it takes a minute (or more) and I am guessing it is uploading.

Anyone got this to work? Know what I am doing wrong/missing?

Thanks!

Check your Settings --> iCloud --> Documents and Data

You might even want to look at the settings for Keynote if there are any as I don't yet have an iPad to check. Mine is coming on March 16th (approx) ;)

oh forgot about that one, but unfortunately it was already turned on.

It seems like I must be missing something really dumb but I can't put my finger on it

GURRR that is just stupid!

yup that is what it is, just tested and it works fine on my iPhone, that sucks sure makes way more sense to work on my computer for all the main work then to do finishing touches if needed on the iPad on the way to the presentation.

Darn you Apple!

Just hoping that tomorrow's Apple Event includes not only a new iPad, but also updates to the iWork suite so that the desktop apps will work with iCloud and the mobile apps.

I am thinking there is an update to iOS 5.1 or something like that. But Dempsy I am still surprised that what you want to is not possible.

Documents in the Cloud. And on your Mac or PC.

iCloud makes it easy to move Pages, Keynote and Numbers documents between your computer and your iOS devices. Just sign in to icloud.com/iwork in any modern web browser, and all your iWork for iOS documents will be there — complete with your most recent edits. Click a document to download it in iWork ’09, Microsoft Office or PDF format. You can also drag and drop any iWork ’09 or Microsoft Office document from your computer into one of the iWork apps on icloud.com, and it automatically appears on all your iOS devices, ready for you to review, edit or present.

Taken from here Apple (Canada) - iCloud - Keep the same documents up to date everywhere. (http://www.apple.com/ca/icloud/features/documents.html)

Am I missing something?

As I understand it, there is no *automatic* synching of iWork documents modified on the Mac to the iOS devices - there's an intermediary step of having to upload it to iCloud:

This just seems a complete failure on their part.

you are spot on, auto sync between iOS but then you have to download and upload from your MacOS

This just seems a complete failure on their part.

Could not agree more

PS thanks for the help everyone!

Well 2 secret features are to be announced tomorrow for iOS 5.1 so we will see.

They seem to be moving slow and steady with iCloud, which would make sense to me. I was a day 1 iCloud adopter. I have had no issues at all with synching calendar, contacts, email between my iDevices and iMac, and doing iDevice backups, except what I imagine were a few server-side connection waits related to volume which they seem to have worked out. I would rather see them roll out working document synching rather than rush it. Meanwhile dragging and dropping Keynote presentations works for me.

Really? No issues I find hard for anyone to say. You telling me the duplication of calender and contacts appearing is a design feature?

Joker you beat me to it, I was going to say the same thing! I have had iCloud when it was called iTools (anyone remember that?) and would agree that iCloud is the best it has gotten but still a long way to go, guess they should have offered more for DropBox
