Back in a Black Carbon Polo Shirt that is.
I wanted to apprise ehMacians about some personal news. Many of you will recall, in April of 2011, I announced I was leaving my daytime job at Carbon Computing to run ehMac.ca full-time.
Over the summer, a lot happened. I had a few health issues and some other personal developments. Overall, it was a great experience though, and I learned a lot about myself. For one, I really do love working in the Mac industry, and miss it when I'm not "in the thick of things". Two, while I'm a real introvert and love my alone time, I definitely do not enjoy working by myself, or without adult interaction. I really like the exchanging of ideas, the push and pull of putting something together, and having projects and goals to work towards with others (Live and in person). I thought about some major career changes, but at heart, I really am a Mac / iOS guy, and this is what I love doing.
In the late fall of 2011, at the request of Carbon, I took a part-time contract position at Carbon Computing in Kitchener, helping out with operations and inventory. I was working with the new Branch Manager at Carbon Kitchener, Matt Scobel, who is a really great, smart guy and fun to work with. There were some cool renovations happening at the Kitchener store, and I also got involved a bit with a side project, called Project Macfrica. Things are really moving in the right direction there, and I enjoy my time at Carbon and I felt really appreciated. So much so, that I was once again offered a more prominent position at the company.
So, as of today, I have accepted the position of Assistant Manager, Retail Sales at Carbon Computing's Kitchener store. I'm going to get back into the thick of things in Retail and all things consumer related to Apple. Without being involved with Retail, I found myself not up with the latest Mac topics as I used to.
As far as what this means to ehMac, there are still very exciting plans for the site that I think will be fueled additionally by my excitement being in the Mac industry again.
As always, I am still very much a proponent for a healthy Mac industry in Canada, and I look towards other Independent Apple Specialists and dealers in Canada as being friends and allies, not as competition or rivals. I strongly mean that, and I have plans to build a free system on ehMac that will help promote other dealers in Canada. I will continue to retweet Dealer's interesting specials and news on ehMac's Twitter account. I also want to clearly state that ehMac remains a 100%, independent entity, wholly owned by myself. I currently do not have any formal marketing arrangements with any company, other than established ones in our "Assured Advertiser" program, which hasn't changed.
Other improvements coming to ehMac very soon:
- ehMazing Days will get lift-off after brief stutter.
- New Classified Ad system, that will be 100x better than current system.
- Interactive Map that members will be able to "pin" to show where they live.
- Other longer term projects, like a product review system, photo gallery, and perhaps someone on staff who will blog for the site.
There you have it. If you're in the Kitchener-Waterloo area and you're looking for a new Mac system or iPad, trading in your old Mac, accessories, training, service or a hard-to-find item, give me a buzz.
As always, thanks again for your dedicated support of the site and for being a part of the community.
