: Wanted To Buy OS 9 Capable Laptop
Chimpur Mar 1st, 2012, 09:20 PM I'm looking for a laptop that can run OS 9. So any Titanium Powerbook or G3 iBook should do. Even the later G3 Powerbooks would be ok as well. I'm not looking to break the bank; but I want something in good condition that works. A plus if it has Airport too!
Fox Mar 2nd, 2012, 06:44 AM I have a PowerBook G3 400 firewire model (Pismo) I might be willing to sell. It's in excellent condition and it does have Airport. PM me if interested.
HowEver Mar 2nd, 2012, 09:16 AM I have a pismo 400 Mhz in fantastic shape running OSX (but I have an original pismo OS disk so you can downgrade easily), and a few iBook clamshells running OS9.
Macfury Mar 2nd, 2012, 10:30 AM Do I hear $50? $50 anyone? Do I hear $49, $49. $49...

What are the full specs? Hows the battery? Does it have a charger?

Same questions. But which colour iBooks do you have?

You should know they are worth $49 to those who don't want one and a lot more to those who do!

Chimpur Mar 2nd, 2012, 08:54 PM Assuming I have Tiger on one of these laptops; I can still run Classic for any OS 9 needs. Is that any way better or worse than natively booting into OS 9?

It's been a long time, but I recall that there were a few minor issues involved in running Classic. Occasional font glitches mostly. I also remember that a few OSX applications--mostly games and third party stuff--would initiate Classic mode in error. I don't recall any real problem in running the actual OS9 applications in Classic.

Native booting is always a better option as it maximizes compatibility and speed. I have Tiger and OS9 on my 400mhz Pismo and always prefer running OS9 direct rather than through classic as it is a lot faster. Some software may not work under classic, but most are older programs designed for Mac OS 8 or earlier (at least that is my experience).
