: Internat radio applications (desktop)?
tdu Mar 1st, 2012, 10:10 AM I don't know if anyone here is having issues with iTunes Radio right now, but there are threads all over the Apple support forums about it. Google "An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service. Check your Internet connection, or try again later." and you will see what I mean.
Are there any other desktop applications for getting internet radio stations? I listen to iTunes radio while I work normally and love just picking random stations. I know I can find stream addresses online an manually input them, but that is kind of a pain.
I'd basically like something like Tunein Radio for iOS, but on my desktop. Does this exist?
SINC Mar 1st, 2012, 10:26 AM OnlineRadioBar - Online Radio & TV Toolbar (http://onlineradiobar.com/download/)
Apple - Downloads - Dashboard Widgets - RadioTuner (http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/radio_podcasts/radiotuner.html)
HowEver Mar 1st, 2012, 10:39 AM Or, you could figure out the URL for the radio stream, and enter it in Safari or another browser.
For example:
Q107
Q107 Listen Live (http://player.q107.com/)
680
680News Web Radio Player (http://player.rogersradio.ca/cftr/on_air)
Or.... there are sites that aggregate links:
Canada radio, Canadian live radio stations streaming (http://delicast.com/radio/Canada)
johnnyspade Mar 1st, 2012, 12:09 PM I do love that TuneIn Radio for iOS. I have an app called Radium that I use for the desktop, albeit pretty infrequently. TuneIN Radio has replaced it for me. It's a paid app.
Radium. Your New Internet Radio Player. (http://www.catpigstudios.com/radium)

Thank you thank you!

I tried the onlineradiobar.com and the download said "Sorry but we're not quite ready
to support Safari 5.1. We're working on it!"
Bummer. iTunes seems to be such overkill.
chas_m Mar 2nd, 2012, 02:37 AM Radium is awesome, but you have to built the links list yourself. You might prefer Amoeba's RadioShift a good option.
pm-r Mar 2nd, 2012, 03:07 AM I installed Radium, didn't even setup any link, had a look at Activity Monitor and it was already using way more memory and cpu than iTunes!!
I'll try checking it out again tomorrow if can actually figure out how to build any links and maybe its memory/cpu hog might improve. ;)
IllusionX Mar 2nd, 2012, 10:12 AM might want to check out shoutcast.com
iTunes should be able to pick up the .m3u

That looks exactly like what I want... but it's not in development and not available for purchase through their site anymore lol.
I know there are options for doing this manually, but the great thing about iTunes is that you pick a genre, look at a description of the station, and randomly pick a station. And you can see what songs are playing in the info as well. I find all kinds of great ramdom stations this way. Hunting for stations manually isn't the same.
I am assuming Apple will fix this issue with the radio network at some point, but it's been about 2 weeks now. iTunes radio was one of those features I never even used until about a year ago, and now I am addicted to it lol.
Paddy Mar 2nd, 2012, 09:44 PM Interesting - I just tried a whole bunch of categories in iTunes and got one error with Alternative Rock, but the second time I tried it, it worked fine. In fact, it seems to me that they've added a whole boatload of streams - Alternative is now up to 375 options, which I don't think it was the last time I looked at it. So....whatever the problem is, it's not affecting everyone or even everyone consistently.
chas_m Mar 3rd, 2012, 03:15 AM Snowtape (http://vemedio.com/downloads/snowtape) then.
My favourite is Radium, but my second favourite is FStream (kinda like Radium but free, has a built-in recorder and not as elegant).
