Wow, what a shocker...one of my all time faves,even tho he played for Montreal. Superb player and huge fan of the game himself. Another untimely victim of cancer...we need to beat that sh*t.
I heard that he was sick, but had not heard that he had died until I suddenly heard it on the CBC news. Loved his play in Montreal -- a real class act. Loved him even more when he went to the New York Mets and helped them win it all in 1986. He even played a bit for the team I have rooted for since I was a young boy -- the SF Giants.
Glad that his last hit was a double as an Expo, and done at home to over 40,000 cheering fans. He earned these accolades. He was also a class act going into the Hall of Fame with his plaque showing an Expo cap logo.
He shall be missed, as both a baseball player and a person. RIP.
