I am not able to connect wirelessly to the D-Link DIR-655 router. Can anyone walk me thru the steps? I am okay using the Ethernet wire. However 40 feet of wire is messy. I have been able to connect my wife's iPad wirelessly, but the iMac is not cooperating. Many Thanks, for any assistance.

What error(s) do you get when you try and select your network from your iMac?

As I write, the airport icon, in the menu bar, is at 4 bars. I click the icon and see that my network is checked. However i cannot access the internet. Most of the effort has been spent in System Preferences/ Network, trying to understand "connection timeout" after entering both admin and user passwords. (not knowing which should work). At this time, for the first time all day, going to System Preferences,Network, Airport, I see Airport connected and my network name selected. Boy, am I confused. Any ideas? Appreciate your help. Many Thanks.

Home from work, turned on the mac, clicked Airport, entered password, and the Bleepin wireless is now working. Who fixed it?

For what it's worth, I've yet to see a reliable D-Link product.

I wouldn't buy them, nor recommend them to anyone. I'd strongly recommend a more reputable replacement, like an Asus, Linksys/Cisco or Apple.

What type of mac is it? Try going in to the modem setup and disable the "N" setting, only allow G & B. Then possibly try the N & G setting. I had a similar problem configuring my DIR-615 this weekend. The newer macs worked fine, the older ones had the same problem as you. I finally gave up and set up my old airport as a second network to accomodate my two G4 computers.

Post #3 is somewhat ambiguous. It's worth noting that the password that you are challenged for in your WiFi login is not the admin or user password, it is the WPA (or WPA2 or WEP) key that has been set on the router.

The router is set up as Auto-WPA or WPA2. Security mode is WPA Personal. I believe.

John. Cannot afford a new router. however I will take your advise for the future.

CanadaRAM. I still don't see the difference between the router configuration that I set, and what password Airport is asking for.

Andrew. iMac 24" 10.6.8 Will have to admit your reply might be a bit above my knowledge level.

Thanks Greenman. I hope to be more educated on the security of routers as I attend more of these forums.

Thank you All.

My D-Link DIR-615 is working great as ever with my iMac... :)
Considering I got this router 3 - 4 years ago, this has been great router that has worked without much issues.

To perhaps clarify CanadaRAM's post about the password, the password that AirPort is asking is the one to access the ability to use the internet...

However, this can be confusing once you consider the password and username for the router config page.

Go to Setup > Wireless Settings > Manual Wireless Network Setup > Pre-Shared Key.

The "Pre-Shared Key" should be the password that AirPort requires in order to connect to the router. Not the password to access the router config page. Certainly, if you have been using this "Pre-Shared Key", then the router itself could be the issue and not your Mac.

I have added pictures to show an example of my D-Link router which should have a similar config page... [I erased the passwords while I took the screenshots just for the purpose of showing examples. I do have a password on our network via WPA 2. :)]
