Got a question I am asking on behalf of my brother. He has a 13" MBP. I think he is running OS 10.6.8. He had a notification that there was a firmware update available through Software Update. It was the EFI Firmware version 2.5. EFI Firmware Update Brings Lion Internet Recovery to Mid-2010 13-Inch MacBook Pro [Updated] - MacRumors.com (http://www.macrumors.com/2012/01/23/efi-firmware-update-brings-lion-internet-recovery-to-mid-2010-13-inch-macbook-pro/)

After the update, he noticed that the battery seemed to drain by itself in sleep mode. Basically, the battery is at 100% (charger plugged in) when he finishes with it in the evening (let's say 1900Hrs). He closes the lid when he is done and packs the computer away (therefore triggering sleep mode?) and when he opens the lid of the MBP in the morning (let's say 0900Hrs), he sees that the battery is at 90%. This was NOT the behaviour before the firmware update.

BTW, when he told me this, I told him to do a battery calibration cycle. He did this and the result was still the same. As well, he tells me that according to "coconut battery" app, his battery has had 140 cycles after 15 months and its capacity is down to 83% (the full charge that this battery will hold is only 83% of when it was brand new).

Any ideas for him about how/why his battery would drain 10% with the lid closed. As far as I know, the only thing that has changed is him applying this firmware update. He isn't using his computer any differently.
