Ubuntu allows iPod access through several programs that are either installed as part of 10.10 (Rhythmbox I believe), or can be added through the Ubuntu repositories. Here (https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/musicvideophotos/C/music-portable.html) is a brief article that explains this.

Hmmm. Thanks for that. Also, my other laptop died and I need to recover my music from my iPod. Does anyone know of the best way to do that? Any ideas?

One word: Senuti

(That's iTunes backwards):

Download Senuti for Mac - Copy music from iPods to Macs. MacUpdate.com (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/14982/senuti)

No, of course not. Read the post just above mine suggesting Senuti. He asked about 'his other Mac" and how to recover his music.
