"Reality is complicated and messy . . . Ideologies get rid of the messiness and impose a simpler solution. So, it may not be surprising that people with less cognitive capacity will be attracted to simplifying ideologies."
There are many studies that cut both ways. But the methodology is equally poor. This one is primarily a meta-analysis of data from the previous studies, adopting their poor methodologies. It also mistakenly associates conservatism with authoritarianism--there is simply no such link.
Unfortunately the social "Sciences" have a really hard time with methodology and the creeping predilection for inserting their own prejudices directly into the study. This is frequently more true in studies conducted by liberals, as shown in the ones above. I suspect it stems from the insecurity over failed liberal policies worldwide.
The proof that liberals are barmy is the fact that they feel obliged to conduct this same flawed study over and over again--a strong indication that there's an underlying inferiority complex resulting from the failed implementation of so many liberal policies.
Your own predilections and prejudices are showing. You cite no evidence whatsoever that these studies were in fact carried out by "liberals". You don't provide evidence as to just how these studies are flawed beyond a result you don't like. Replication of studies is a tried and established method of testing the reliability of a result,,,,,
Your information regarding methodologies is dated. Even among so-called physical scientists in recent times, social sciences enjoy a reputation for having very sophisticated methodologies in the face complex variability situations and for dealing with "experimenter effect".
Until voters learn to judge the bums on what they do, instead of what they claim to intend to do, or what they claim to believe, voters of all persuasion will continue to look like idiots.
Worth repeating: If it's wrong when the other guy's guy does it, it's wrong when your guy does it.
