: iPod earphones do not stay in ears!!
Positive Climb Jan 26th, 2012, 08:00 PM I just got an iPod Touch 32gb and I cannot get the earbuds to stay in my ears! I came from a Zune and the earphones with the Zune have a rubber end on them and they stay in just fine.
Does anyone else have trouble with this?
Thanks
jamesB Jan 26th, 2012, 09:58 PM I don't.
fjnmusic Jan 26th, 2012, 10:43 PM I hate the iPod ear buds — one product I just cannot endorse. I use the less fashionable but good bass-sounding compact on-the-ear headphones. Could you not simply plug your Zune earphones into your iPod Touch?
broad Jan 26th, 2012, 10:54 PM they never stay in my ear either. they might be the worst apple product of all time..they feel awful and sound horrific
i mean god..look at them...theyre perfectly round...who's ears are shaped like that? no one

Close second to the hockey puck mouse. Replaced mine with in two days. Was thinking they might have improved since then.
Glipt Jan 29th, 2012, 09:15 PM I've never been able to get any earbuds to stay in my ear. Always hated them. Thought my iPod touch earbuds sounded horrible. Then I tried my Dad's iPad earbuds. Yikes!!! Even worse. They sound like AM radio. I use an old pair of Sony Walkman headphones from the 90's. Sound way better.
Kimchiboy Jan 29th, 2012, 10:22 PM I'm not a fan of the iPod earbuds' sound quality either but I've never had trouble with them falling out.
Have you considered the in-ear buds from other manufacturers? I really like the Sony Premium EX earbuds, and you can usually get them for $39 or $49 on sale... downside is that the wire usually wears out after a year or two.
Mckitrick Jan 30th, 2012, 04:46 AM They don't stay in my ears either. I'm sure I have about five pairs around the house that are basically mint.

Fix your eaes, please,
SINC Jan 30th, 2012, 06:17 AM I never use Apple ear buds, they won't stay in for me either. I picked up a tiny pair of RCA headphones that hang on the ears and circle the back of the neck. Lightweight, comfortable, much better sound and hang unnoticed around my neck when not in use. I bought them about three years back and I think I paid about $10 for them, complete with inserts to change the colour once in a while.
chrisburke Jan 30th, 2012, 08:18 AM I never really understood the complaint of apple earbuds.. I found them decent for what they are.. I don't use them though... But what you can do (which is what I've done with my ear buds) is pick up a radians custom ear mold kit ($14.99), stick the earbud in your ear, and then the ear putty... 10 minutes later it hardens and keeps the shape of your ear, with the earbud inside... I do this because I use earbuds as monitors while on stage.. It'll completely isolate any other noises, but they'll stay in your ears

NFtoBC Jan 30th, 2012, 02:29 PM Purchased a pair of Etymotic headphones shortly after I got my phone & love them. I found the apple ones did not stay in my ears; the Etymotic ones exclude all other sounds, and put the music inside your head.

Definitely. They do not stay in my ears at all, iPods may as well come with no ear buds at all in my case, I always have to buy 3rd party buds. I had a pair of Shure earbuds and now Bose earbuds, they both are very comfortable and stay in really well. They both come with three different size buds so that they are likely to fit almost any ear.

Cause they fall out and the sound sucks... that might have something to do with it. ;)
The Doug Jan 30th, 2012, 03:12 PM I've been using Apple's in-ear 'phones since they first came out and I'm pretty satisfied with them - they fit my ears well and don't slip, they sound alright, and they block most ambient noise. Perfect for casual listening on the commuter train. For home listening I use a cushy & comfortable headband / over-the-ear set by Pioneer. As for the stock earbuds that ship with iPods... oh the pain. I can't even get them to fit properly in my ears.
pm-r Jan 30th, 2012, 03:32 PM There was a company demoing their "stay in place" ear buds at the latest Macworld 2012 San Fran expo with a girl athlete bouncing waaaaay up off a trampoline to demonstrate their stay in place actually works.
I'd need to go Gooling to find the picture and video and the company name, but be my guest. ;)

Polkaudio’ one of many audio company’s that was at the 2012 Macworld/iWorld stood out from the rest with a trampoline to show that there UltraFit headphones will stay in place.
Paddy Jan 30th, 2012, 04:39 PM Apple's earbuds have never fit me either - they fall out AND they hurt my ears (physically - not the sound). However, they fit my husband fine, so it's definitely a matter of ear size etc.
I'm not a big fan of anything IN my ears after trying many different types of earbuds. The only ones I've found that are tolerable are some Panasonic make. Bought 'em in the US though, where they were a lot cheaper. I bought them two summers ago - I think since then they've changed the models, but they were similar to these (http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-RP-HJE350-K-SLIMZ-Earbud-Headphones/dp/B003EM2WF2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1327958662&sr=8-2), in both design and price. $18.76 from amazon.com and an astonishing $51.75 at amazon.ca. They're $49 at Futureshop. Lots of people selling them on eBay, and here's one in T.O. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PANASONIC-RP-HJE350PPK-SLIMZ-ERGO-FITEARPHNES-BLACK-SILVER-/190633928887?pt=Other_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item2c62aae8b7#payId)
KittyKat77 Feb 6th, 2012, 12:05 AM I've always found that my ears are too small for the "official" Apple earbuds. maybe if they came up with different sizes, it would be better.

I thought that most supplied Apple earbuds came with: small, medium and large earbud adapters, or is that just with certain models, or maybe even dispense with even using the smallest ones for maybe an uncomfortable experience with the smallest of ears and use some Scotch Tape or use that model shop craft clay stuff or the better silicone modelling stuff??? ie: create your own like the expensive hearing aid shop people do ;)
Paddy Feb 6th, 2012, 04:55 PM Apple earbuds don't come with any adapters, pm-r, but you can buy them. I did, and they still didn't fit. :(
pm-r Feb 6th, 2012, 05:30 PM You mean their ad is not true and misleading?? Hmmm...???
"Choose from three sizes of soft, silicone ear tips for a comfortable, stable fit. When inserted in your ear, they create a seal that blocks outside noise so you can get the most from your music."

Nope, you linked to the optional ear buds you can buy separately. The standard buds that come with the iPhone are nothing like those, instead they are round, firm, one size buds like these:
pm-r Feb 6th, 2012, 06:20 PM Gheese!! And not even an alternative option offered or available without paying more for a different type!!
Thanks. I never knew.
dwp Feb 7th, 2012, 08:30 PM I've used both sets of Apple earbuds, the ones that come with the ipod and iphone and the premium ones that Apple sells for $89.99. The ones that come with the ipod and iphone sound terrible and don't stay in your ears and the premium pair are way over rated and not worth the money.
Then I found these...
MDR-EX38iP/BLK | EX Earbuds with iPod® Remote | Sony Canada (http://store.sony.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=100803&storeId=20153&langId=200&productId=8198552921666001159)
They sound as good as the Apple premium models (I would say better) and the price was more in line with something that will probably have to be replaced in a year or two given the fact that they can and do get caught in zippers and accidentally pulled out of your ears.
SINC Feb 8th, 2012, 10:59 AM Those Sony buds are priced right, but Apple could easily afford to make the premium model buds part of the iPhone package and be done with it.
pm-r Feb 8th, 2012, 03:22 PM Why not include them with ALL iDevices?? Or are they afraid that doing so might cut into their small profit worth of over 300+ billion dollars!!!
HowEver Feb 8th, 2012, 04:03 PM Hey, why not try this!
Go into a bunch of stores and say, "May I have that more expensive thing instead of that less expensive thing, without paying more?"
Like you'd do that anywhere at all except in this thread.

Wrong side of the bed today?
pm-r Feb 8th, 2012, 05:09 PM +1. And a lot better and politer than what I was going to reply and I'm glad I delayed doing so. :)
Besides the fact that sometimes just asking one can often get a better deal. ;)
SINC Feb 8th, 2012, 05:42 PM My point is Apple prides itself on producing high quality and beautifully designed technical marvels and then goes cheapo with an ill fitting set of tinny ear buds when they know full well they make a much superior product. That product in my opinion could easily be incorporated into the package for an extra $49, the same cost as the Sony ear buds.
Some people have no idea when they think anyone here is asking for something for nothing. That was never the case and an assumption on their part.
It's poor marketing on Apple's part and they ought to be ashamed.

When I worked retail I would often get that! And more times than I would care to admit I caved in to make the sale and make the customer happy. Unfortunately for those of us who like to get a better deal Apple doesn't budge, although their customer service is sometimes over the top and they do exceed our expectations.

You're bang on SINC! Apple do make an exceptionally good product and back it with amazing customer service but never forget that they're in the business to make money and if they can move you up to the high end earbuds... well ca-ching!
If we knew the profit they make on these products we'd throw up... but they are nice products.
