: How often do you NOT use the remote?
Sonal Jan 25th, 2012, 05:27 PM I have often suspected that I may be among the last of the dinosaurs who uses the buttons on the actual TV.
Sure, I use the remote too, but if I can't find the remote, or I happen to be standing (i.e., got up to answer the phone or get a snack or something) then it's just a lot faster to adjust whatever I need to adjust on the TV itself.
And there are only 6 buttons on the TV. So much simpler.
groovetube Jan 25th, 2012, 05:29 PM what, put my beer down and.... WALK???? :yikes:
MLeh Jan 25th, 2012, 05:44 PM At home, if I'm leaving the room and just want to turn it off , I'll definitely use the button on the TV.
In hotel rooms - all the time. (For some reason the odds of the batteries in the remote being dead are pretty good.)
Macfury Jan 25th, 2012, 05:47 PM I turned the dial on one of my sets.
kps Jan 25th, 2012, 06:22 PM You left out my choice: When I first unpacked it and the remote didn't have the batteries in it yet. :D
G-Mo Jan 25th, 2012, 06:27 PM My TV doesn't have buttons and my programming doesn't function without the remote.

I once went a solid year without using the remote because the batteries died, there was nothing else to cannibalize batteries from and I never got around to getting new ones....
I'm getting close to that point now. Note to self: buy batteries.

Not even a power button?

No buttons. It's got touch sensitive areas you can use to perform traditional functions (power, channel, volume, input), but no buttons!
JAMG Jan 25th, 2012, 06:47 PM My basement TV set-up uses 3 remotes, none of which control the volume.

When I was a kid, I was the remote. My father would get me to turn to Ch.11 (for the Yankees game) ....... Ch.9 for the Dodgers game .......... or Ch.5 for the Giants game. :D
Andrew Pratt Jan 25th, 2012, 07:50 PM My TV has touch sensitive buttons...but there's no point pressing them since it is just a monitor to the inputs run though the AV receiver...no remote means no TV. Luckily I have my Harmony that controls everything so well my 6 year old can control everything she wants

Ditto - but for the reason that remotes are known to be among the grottiest objects in a hotel room, even the high end ones. Eeeeew.

Which is the reason when I walk into a hotel room the first thing I do, usually, is grab a facecloth, wet it down and add some soap, and wipe down the telephone, remote, and anything else that is commonly used but not commonly cleaned. (I also wash the mugs or glasses before I use them.) Just doing preventive germ control, because I hate coming home from a trip sick (and I travel a lot).

I have had mine for 3 years and I don't see any buttons. There may be some in the back of the tv. from day 1 i have used the remote.
MLeh Jan 26th, 2012, 08:55 AM On some TVs there is a hidden panel on the bottom front of the TV. Push gently along the bottom front and see if a door drops open. Buttons or controls behind that door. (I've seen the controls on the outer side edge of some of the newer TVs too.)
SINC Jan 26th, 2012, 09:27 AM I have yet to see any TV without manual controls. Our Samsungs are recessed in the bottom right side, Look closely and you will find them.
bryanc Jan 26th, 2012, 10:12 AM The TV remote often goes missing... it likes to hide between sofa cushions, under the coffee table, or hitch a ride into another room altogether. Then when some blaring commercial comes on, some one has to jump up and find the volume control on the back/side of the TV and turn it right off.
BigDL Jan 26th, 2012, 10:31 AM When I'm called to adjust the TV in what I call the "den room." (why is every other room except the kitchen in a house followed by the word "room"?)
A Mac Mini is hooked up to a 32" LCD TV as a monitor and a cable box (Fibre Op TV.) My wife hits the wrong button or some other anomaly happens and the tech guy is called into the room.
As I have to stand by the television, cable box and Mac to perform a "test" of some sort or other, I usually do not use a remote or for some functions the remote is most intuitive way access some function or other.

Now there's an invention just waiting for a creative genius. A beeper on the remote that can be activated from a key chain fob.
On second thought better to use a button on the side of the TV to activate the beeper.:D

You should patent this idea.
A TV remote with buttons sized and arranged in a way that reflects their usage pattern (which, based on comments here, would have the mute button being pretty big, but not as big as I'd like), and equipped with a beeper that was activated by an easily accessible button on the TV itself, so you can find the damn thing. Brilliant.
Sonal Jan 26th, 2012, 12:56 PM See, if I want the volume off in a hurry, I don't worry about looking for the mute button. I just find the power button and turn the TV off.
Problem solved.

Some TVs apparently already have this. ;)
