I'm lucky...
I love where I come from... I am a 9th generation native born Nova Scotian/Canadian (my family first arrived in 1750 in Canada).
I only lived in Nova Scotia for a very short period of time when I was very young, after I was born there, but I grew up knowing my ancestry and the significance of my being born there in an unbroken line.
We visited my grandparents often on the family land/farm when I was young... a young boys dream, fishing, swimming, playing with the dogs and cats, exploring the barn, listening to old stories and jokes (new to me), learning how to shoot straight (which I seemed to be very good at due to good eye sight) etc...
I consider myself to be very lucky to have had such experiences... they are a very defining part of my upbringing and still mean much to me now.
I don't get back to Nova Scotia very often, far less than I would like. but every time I do I feel like I am home.
I consider myself lucky to feel that way...
