Interesting article. I know that I was able to get far more education than anyone in my family in the US, and then was able to come to Canada to teach at a university here in NL. I chose Canada to find employmen and than chose to live here for the rest of my life. 35 years and counting so far ............
Gotta' love Canada and the opportunities it provides for hard working immigrants like myself.
A huge number of Americans aren't even getting high school diplomas at this point. Economic mobility doesn't require a university degree, but it does require some education.
Comparing ourselves to the US has become an easy way to feel better...
After so many years at the top of the heap, the US has fallen on hard times in the past decade or two, and it's become an easy target for "it could be worse" sorts of comparisons for us.
Unfortunately, our current government seems to be under the impression that most Canadians would like Canada to be *more* like the US, whereas most of the Canadians I know would rather be more like Europe (if anything... personally, I'd rather we were more like Canada, which is to say I think we need to steer our own course, because our society and economy is unique).

Make enough noise, wave arms furiously, repeat and repeat a story 'til it must be true or merely go into denial mode or any combination of these conservative action plans.
So let's add "Look! Shinny ball" to the conservative action plan. I hope I haven't forgot anymore planks of the action plan but if I have I will accept suggestions to fill in the gaps.
So you can't name the other 34 nearly bankrupt European Countries perhaps you could ask some friends to help name those 34 nearly bankrupt countries.
It's your assertion so prove it...or withdraw the assertion "most European countries are bankrupt or nearly so."
