I've got the notice. My monthly fee is going up $3 a month. Not too bad for me.
TekSavvy did a great job with the hand they received from the CRTC. I'm still pissed that we are paying some of the highest rates in the world for internet.
Last time I checked UK, Ireland, much of continental Europe, New Zealand, Slovakia, Poland, Mexico, Turkey (and more!) paid more than Canadians... While we aren't the cheapest, we certainly are not near "the highest rates in the world".
I mainly compare with Japan, Hong Kong and Korea. In Canada's major urban centres the internet rates and features should be similar. France also has well priced services. Changes in U.K. regulation have improved things there. The price and feature set of our internet should be declining with time, and that isn't happening here.
I don't get it....
Why do people continue to think that the price of a product or service is based on the cost to manufacture it or to provide he service?
I just looked at something as basic as an electric kettle - the identical model in Canada was twice the price of that same model in the US - and that was comparing the price at amazon.ca to that at amazon.com
Exactly. It's the willingness to pay combined with the government's willingness to allow free competition for Internet service. Canadian service should be slightly more expensive than countries that are more population dense, but this does not provide a blanket excuse.
however, a slight price increase to get their Express Cable package would offer me 12MB down and a 300GB cap for $39.95, which is a better deal than my current plan. going to call them.
had a chat with Teksavvy, turns out Quebec based customers are not going to see a price increase at this time but we cannot take advantage of the new Cable or DSL packages being rolled out next month. too bad, would have jumped on their Express Cable offer with a 300GB cap for $39.95.
