: Outgoing Mail has wrong user name, but correct address

This has apparently been happening for a little while, but my partner just told me about it, and I'm stumped.

When he sends mail from his account it shows up in the recipients in-box as having been sent by me - at least by name; however, the email address is the correct one - his!

i.e. he sends a message and it appears to be from "Michael McHugh<HIS_email@sympatico.ca>

Any ideas as to what is going on here? I've checked his mail settings, and they all look OK. We're using OS X Mail and 10.7.2 (Lion).

So under Mail Preferences -> Accounts -> Full Name -> It's his?

Edit: may have jumped the gun - check the fields as mentioned above.


This is an issue with Sympatico email accounts. The only solution is to either use another SMTP server (on port different than 25, as Bell blocks it), use webmail only, or switch ISPs.

I'd strongly recommend the final option, as it's the only one that gets around Bell's moronic policies and pricing.

I wondered if it might be a Sympatico issue ... they must have changed something recently if that is the case, as it's a new(ish) issue ...

Can you access the Sympatico webmail and check the name that's associated with his email address is as it should be??

That would be a bit strange though I'd suggest.

I was told by Bell they made that change sometime mid September this year although I have found mail that had the wrong email address as far back as january. But it was sporadic.

I though seriously about changing ISP but there were other downsides to that so I ended up using the work-around I mentioned in the RFD thread which works fine so far.
