Harry Morgan, the prolific character actor best known for playing the acerbic but kindly Colonel Potter in the long-running television series “M*A*S*H,” died Wednesday morning at his home in Los Angeles. He was 96. His son Charles confirmed his death, saying Mr. Morgan had been treated for pneumonia recently.
I grew up on M*A*S*H - and Morgan's portral of Col. Potter was excellent. I wonder how many of you remember that his first appearance on that show was as another military officer?
In one of his final interviews, Harry surprisingly recalled his role as Bill Gannon as the most satisfying thing he did in television:
