Hi everyone,

I'm looking at purchasing a pre loved Intel Mac Pro that boots in 32/64-Bit mode. Send the me the details, specific Model, year, purchased date, Ram, HD's, Video card, Optical drive, used for, wear and tear if any, price, your location etc...

I'm in the Ottawa area, it's always best to meet, but shipping insured might be required, do you have the original box on hand, can you handle shipping ? and can you handle PayPal ?

My wish list,
Pros,
- Must be from a smoke free home/environment.
- Interested in original hardware (no upgraded Video card or CPU).
- Must boot in 32/64-Bit mode, preferably boot in 64-Bit mode.
- Ram and Hard Drive Upgrades are very cool.
- Installed Snow leopard.

Mids,
- No problem with a bare bones Mac Pro (minimum Ram and stock HD), I can upgrade later, so don't be shy.

Cons,
- Not interested in computers that have had open heart surgery, parts swapped, past issues, even if Apple Care is thrown in.

One more thing,
I don't need the latest high end Mac Pro (budget restriction, simple user needs).

Not sure what Intel Mac Pro boots in 32/64-bit mode, check out this link
Which Intel Macs have 64-bit processors? Which have a 64-bit EFI? Which are capable of booting MacOS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" in 64-bit mode? @ EveryMac.com (http://www.everymac.com/mac-answers/snow-leopard-mac-os-x-faq/mac-os-x-snow-leopard-64-bit-macs-64-bit-efi-boot-in-64-bit-mode.html)

Send me a PM with the info on what you are offering.

You're correct that the first gen 2006 & 2007 models can not boot in 64-bit mode because they have 32-bit EFI, but ALL mac pros can support Lion.

not sure if you're suggesting that booting in 64-bit mode is a prerequisite of Lion (which would be incorrect), or if booting in 64-bit mode is integral to what you want to do with the mac pro (which may be the case).

also, some are saying that the 2006-7 mac pros will not support mountain lion, although i've read of people editing a ktext file to get support on a beta version, so it will be interesting to see what happens when it's finally released.

I'm not suggesting anything, just looking for the Mac that will fit me well as we move forward and other OS will be developed.

I'm looking at getting a Apple MacPro 3,1 "Eight Core", 2 processors (8 Cores) here are the spec's

Mac Pro "Eight Core" 2.8 (2008) Specs (Mac Pro Early 2008, MA970LL/A, MacPro3,1, A1186, 2180) @ EveryMac.com (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_pro/stats/mac-pro-eight-core-2.8-2008-specs.html)

I have a friend that may be selling one of those, not sure if its running 2.8's or if he's upgraded it to 3.2's. shoot me your email in a private message and i'll pass it on to him, if you like.

congrats!

well worth it! you should be able to find a x5462 for a very reasonable price now. i believe OWC has the heatsinks required. make sure you get the proper stepping code for 1600fsb.

i had good luck with memorydepot.com for the stupid-expensive ram. $230 after tax/ship for 8gb. No issues with two shipments from them (both shipments took a week each) - no customs charges, either.

Thanks spoonie,

I will be starting a Thread shortly on the subject of upgrading this MacPro 3.1, I want to make sure I have all the right parts and everything is done the right way (possibly by the right person if I lack the knowledge or skills)..
