I updated to iOS5 today on my iPhone4, but Newsstand is all of the major magazines. There are only about six available when I click on the "You can download magazines and newspapers in the App Store" icon.

I'm not sure if this is a limitation of Canadian licensing, or a limitation of the iPhone where the magazines are only available on the iPad.

Has anyone with a Canadian iTunes account actually managed to subscribe to The New Yorker, GQ, Esquire, Details, TIME, or any other major magazine?

I tried downloading the "Free" magazine "How stuff works",
But then realized that it's a dupe, It has in app purchases which are really a tricky way of getting you to subscribe.

I ended up deleting the app,
It's just as bad as free games with huge in app purchases.

Not worth playing with.

It would have been nice if they had some freebies in this news stand,
But as it is, It's a complete waste of time for me on my iPhone.

And just how did you do that? I tried to delete it on the iPhone and on my MBP via iTunes with no luck. It won't delete on the iPhone and its isn't visible on the MBP?????

The News Stand app itself can't be deleted,
You can only delete the magazine app's that you put into it.

You also can't hide it a folder :(

I got duped by a few as well, though some do have free issues. The NYT is a good one - lots of free articles each day.

And some mags are very affordable. Might subscribe to one or two in the future.

I subscribe to a number of magazines in the print editions, and they all come with free iPad versions. I'm curious if I'm going to be able to redeem those free digital editions over newsstand on the iPhone, because right now it doesn't look like the case.

Certainly more convenient than hauling around a 300+ page print issue!
