: Installing Windows with Bootcamp

Alo alo,

I've had Windows 7 installed with Bootcamp on my late 2008 iMac. I found when I used it that my Mac's fans would go nuts and clearly there was a heat issue which didn't come up with the native OSX. I assume it was probably an issue with plug-ins and getting all the bells and whistles to work cohesively with a Windows operating system, but I couldn't figure out how to make them all work flawlessly. I ended up deleting Windows as it clearly wasn't doing me any good.

I'm getting a brand new iMac now, and would really like to play some games on it that exist only for PC. What would be the best Windows to install? I heard Win XP service pack 2+ was the best, but mostly people liked it better than Vista at the time.

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to make a Windows operating system run on the Mac flawlessly without making me loose sleep at night thinking its destroying the whole machine every time I run it.

I will also be honest and say that it was a boot legged version of Windows. Ever since I started my career (recent) I've been more straight about things, and would actually go as far as to buy a legit copy of Windows if it will take care of the headaches.

Thanks for your help,
d.

I have Windows 7 ultimate running on 2 computers (i5 iMac and i5 MacBook Pro) plus Windows 7 home premium on a current gen mac mini with 6 gigs of ram.

It all runs flawlessly, no fans going nuts or anything. Did you install the bootcamp drivers off your install CD? I would go with Windows 7, its a much better OS then XP which is what, 10 years old now?

I had Windows 7 on my machine, but I remember when I first installed it, it said something about missing video card drivers. I went on Nvidia to try and get them. I found some that worked but I doubt there were the proper ones belonging to that card. I think thats where my issue was, I hope.

Actually I just saw this on another thread,

http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/boo...tall-setup.pdf

I think by looking at this I never installed my drivers using Apple's CD.
I guess I'll start by doing this on the next windows version I stall, hope that's all there was to it.

Ya go with Windows 7. I would go with the Home Premium version it will have everything you need. You can save some money if you buy Windows from a computer store instead of the big box stores.

Thats the first thing I do after installing Windows. I am guessing some of your problems were from not having the right drivers. This gives you everything you need for wireless, iSight and even the apple keyboard with windows, plus other things like sound drivers, GPU drivers, etc.

I have never had an issue with Windows on an intel Mac, yours should run no problem.
