: External Display Help

Got Mac?

Hello,

I have recently moved my 50" TV into my office and mounted it on the wall to use as my display. Unfortunately when I use it everything is too small to read. I can use the zoom function in safari, but I can't even read my bookmarks bar.

Is there a way to make EVERYTHING bigger? finder, all apps, etc..

Also, I am using a macbook pro, so it would be ideal for these changes to automatically kick-in when an external is plugged in, and return to normal when I am using the macbook pros display.

If it is of any help: the TV I am using as a display is a 50" Pioneer Elite.

Thank you, all help is appreciated.

I can lower the resolution, but this makes things blurry and not as crisp. When I use the full 1920X1080 the picture is FANTASTIC. Watching HD movies are awesome. Everything else would be fine if I was sitting 3 feet from the screen, but I am located on the other side of the room, as the TV is wall mounted.

What you see is what you get. The native resolution of the TV is 1920x1080, so any other resolution is going to be blurry. Your only real options are to either stop using the TV, or find a way to be closer to it so that you can see it properly.

Don't forget about the screen zoom feature - hold the Control key, and scroll your mouse in and out (if you have a scroll wheel), or hold Control and perform a two-finger slide away from you on the trackpad (slide towards you to zoom back out).

I think it's under *universal access* there's a switch to turn on zoom

maybe this might help

I think the best bet would be to change the 'View Options' under the view menu (or cmd + J), you can up your icon size and Text size there without zooming (which will make things appear bigger but means that you aren't seeing the whole screen) or dropping the resolution (which as you said, adds the blur factor). catch is that you're limited to a maximum 16 pt Text size, which may still be a bit small on that screen, but it's still dramatically bigger than the default of 12.
