I posted an image in this thread (http://www.ehmac.ca/everything-else-eh/93424-ehmac-s-virtual-convention-think-tank-visual-art-i-e-graphic-design-painting.html) and it appears sideways in the thread.

I uploaded the image from my iPad to DropBox and used the DropBox URL in the posting.

The image appears right side up on my iPad when I view it in the Photos App and also when I view the thread with the image in it.

Don't know why this happens. Maybe someone has a answer??

The iPad (and iPhone) look at the info within the jpg file, called EXIF data, and it knows if the image should be displayed in portrait or landscape. Web browsers don't do this. Most times when you import or export the image, say into iPhoto, it will do the "flip" for you, but if it's something that was taken on your iPad and stayed on the iPad no software had a chance to flip it yet. The iPad will do it automatically when you view it (but it doesn't save the changes to the image).

That makes sense. Sort of.

The picture was taken with my iPod Touch, in the portrait orientation, yet it displayed in landscape. Does Apple register the orientation backwards?

Odd.

But now I know how to proceed in the future. Thanks for that.

Try the app "Photo Rotate".
