This 1st generation Apple TV is working perfectly with its new 320GB hard drive (Western Digital Scorpio Blue, 99$ value) which lets you store up to 400 hours of video on the device, thus no computer need to be turned on to watch stored movies on your HD TV.

The included original drive was cloned to the new and installed 320Gb drive using ATVcloner (DynaFlash Tech » AtvCloner (http://dynaflashtech.net/atvcloner/)) and tested.
The Apple TV is in a factory reset state and additional applications such as XBMC or Boxee can later be easily added.
Requires iTunes on a PC or a Mac to synchronize the movies, music, pictures, etc.
