I have for sale an Apple refurbished Mac Mini (FB463LL/A) which I purchased online from the Apple store on June 25, 2009. I intended to use it as a home theatre pc but never got around to it. I've barely used it since I bought it and it's in perfect working condition. As it was a refurbished item, it came with some scratches on the top of the unit (can only see them certain angles of light) and one small nick in the aluminum casing on the top right area of the front, as you will see in the third photo below.

If it had been a daily newspaper I would agree.
Can't buy a daily newspaper with a future date on it.

But a hand written piece of paper? One can put any date on it......including that in the picture means absolutely nothing.

Ok so you are suggesting that someone would go to the lengths to take the picture of a piece of a equipment with a hand written date, say a year in the future, just so they could pull off a fraud when they want to sell it in the future in case it gets damaged at some point along the way....????

I think if you believe this you are more cunning than most people and if you ever put something up for sale I want to see it next to a recent newspaper. ;)

It was in the form of question krs... and also half joking... geesh chillax.

To me it adds credibility because of the reasons I mentioned above, you would have to be pretty deceitful to go to such lengths. If there is a hand written (or otherwise) date next to the photo, especially if the date is the same as the day of the listing, it lends credibility to the notion that these are very recent photos. I think it is a good idea. You don't, fine we disagree. End of story.

Was excited to see some activity in my thread, but not quite the activity I was hoping for ;)

screature is on point, the dated paper is just a way for sellers to help prove that they actually have the item being sold. It's actually a requirement on some other buy/sell forums that I regularly visit, so I just make it regular practice when taking photos of items I'm selling. Also, it helps prevent other sellers from trying to use my photos as their own. As others have mentioned, it's not foolproof.

Anyway, back on track, I've got a Mac Mini for sale :)

Congrats to r2traps and Fuji.... Glad the early derailment didn't dissuade as successful transaction. :)

Derailments, at the very least, can keep the sale item bumped to the top of the list for an extended period!
