Hey guys I'm hooking up our Mac Mini running 10.6.4
Boot up screen as is login screen. As soon as I type my password and login I get the message "signal out of range" on my TV. Anybody know how I can go about changing the screen resolution when I have a blank screen? Thanks very much for any info.

Do you have another monitor you could connect the Mini to?

If not there is one way I know of to change the display resolution while blind (this may be different on some keyboards):

Once logged in..
1) press [option] + ["decrease brightness key"]
2) press [tab] ONCE
3) use UP and DOWN arrows to change resolution

Sounds like the TV is set to receive signal from it's cable connection but there is no cable (or antenna). You need to use the TV setup to shift it to the computer input.

As the login window displays just fine on the TV I'm assuming the input is set correctly. Generally an "out of range" error message implies that the display resolution is set outside of the range that the TV can accept. The TV manual should list the maximum supported resolution.

Maybe just try a doing a PRAM reset as amongst the things it does it to reset the Monitor depth.

1 Shut down the computer.
2 Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3 Turn on the computer.
4 Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5 Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6 Release the keys.

But iTouch's neat trick sounds like it should work. And thanks for that trick.

Hey guys I believe the pram reset did the trick. Thanks for all the useful suggestions :-)
The Mini was just moved from my 17" NEC in my home office so I guess the Mac was trying to do the same resolution on the LCD tv. No idea why the boot and login screens showed up ok initially though. Ah well problem solved that's all that matters
