: 2 Updating Questions?

I am going to give a friend of mine an upgrade copy of Logic Studio I have. Its an update for Logic Studio and/or Logic Pro and is the most recent upgrade.

As it turns out, he has the full version, #8 of Logic Studio on his Mac right now.
Another friend of his gave him the earlier full version and when it was installed, he forgot to get the serial number from him but his friend is not using it, my friend is the only that has it installed but his friend just is holding all his discs for him.

He can get it, that isnt a problem but it will take 2-3 days to do so as he is out of town right now.
So, wondering, must we wait the 3 days or so for him to get home OR can we install this upgrade?
We are not sure if the upgrade will require the serial for the full version beforehand?
As it is a bit of a hassle to go over there and find this out after wards, I was hoping someone might know the answer, that way, I can either do it for him tonight OR we must wait which is inconvenient for me.

2nd question......once installed, this upgrade, bringing his full version #8 up to the present, when they come out with the next version, will he then have to buy a full version OR will another upgrade on its own take him up to THAT version ok?

TIA

I don't think you need the S/N of the full version before you apply the upgrade -- the full version, however, must be already installed before you can apply the upgrade to it.

Yes, it is installed and no, I dont think you need the serial when installing the upgrade either. Obviously, he needs to have it on hand so we dont have to go though this again but for now that is the answer I was hoping for.

Now, any idea, if when they come out a year or so from now with a new upgrade, lets say, #10, being that my upgrade version is #9 and the full version he already has installed on his Mac is #8, WIL he be able to upgrade again with just an upgrade OR, will he by that time, have to buy a full #10 install?

Hes trying to determine whether it is worth his while investing in the upgrade now OR just waiting for #10 to come out next year or so---for IF he has to buy the whole version then, rather than just upgrading hes not sure he wishes to lay out the moey today for an upgrade to #9.

I would assume, that after upgrading his #8 to #9 with an upgrade version, he will be able to upgrade again to #10 rather than having to buy the whole #10 full package????
