If you search MacBook or MacBook Pro, there's a bunch of brand new ones selling at attractive prices. What's the deal with these? Anyone hazard a guess. Stolen maybe but there are at least 10 of them.

the first one looks legit, but the 2nd one not so much.

i usually search in Montreal kijiji, and i end up with sites forwarded and ****. but well, nothing to lose by contacting them.. if it sounds fishing (says they are over sea and blah blah) then just ignore.

that's what i do.

Sudden appearance of cheap Macs on Kajiji = recent burglary of Mac store in a nearby area. They are likely stolen.

No, it's just an ordinary scam.

No doubt the phone is a throwaway pay as you go paid for in cash. Cash, as in what you'll never see again if you hand it over for one of these non-existent purchases.

Good detective work HowEver.

Also, check out this email response I got from one of the sellers:

I'm really glad you're interested in this item. It used to belong to my husband the judge gave it to me after the divorce and I have no use for it. I just want to get rid of it as soon as possible because the money and time he spent on it was one of the main reasons for our divorce.
I'm not really good at this stuff... all I know is it's working perfectly and has never had any problems.
After the divorce I moved back to my mother's in London UK along with all my belongings ... this blasted thing included.
I'll ship it using an international service at no charge for you. The listed price is the real price. I'll even send the shipping receipt to my husband so that he sees what happened to his beloved stuff.
Because I can't explain much about the item technical stuff I'll offer a 10 day return option.
If you're serious about buying the item, email me back so that I can explain how this will work.

Great story Hellen. I'm going to tell her I'm superstitious and I need a photo of her in her underwear with the MacBook on her lap and her rubbing a fish on her head.

Yes, that is definitely a textbook scam.

It's like he studies other scammers and wrote a report on it. Here's his grade: FAIL.

Kijiji is full of scams like this one .. the way they do the backend of their system allows the ad posters to pull the ad and all evidence is gone within minutes. This makes it an appealing target for scammers, so that once they get a fish on the hook so to speak they immediately pull the ad so that there's no evidence of the transaction in question remaining. I confirmed that this is the way their system works a while back when I had troubles with purchasing something through an ad (it wasn't a standard scam, but someone sold defective merchandise to me that they advertised as 'mint condition' and 'in perfect working order'). The problems weren't obvious and when I found them the next day I had no recourse available to me as the ad was gone and kijiji had no record of it in their system as the original poster had pulled it and it was 'long gone' from their system.

At least craiglist retains the record and just 'flags' things for removal.
