As many of you know, my hubby and I ordered a new G5 iMac not long ago with all the trimmings. Our Bluetooth keyboard and Airport Express have already arrived by Purolator, but the iMac was sent by FedEx.

So, the iMac is on the truck for delivery today, but no one will be home to receive it. That means FedEx takes it back to the Ottawa airport in the middle of nowhere. I asked them to put a "hold" on it so I can go and pick it up today, but get told that Apple has very strict rules about deliveries and they can't hold it for me to pickup without me first calling Apple to ask them to call FedEx and say that it's okay for me to pick it up!!! What the hell kind of bull***** is that!?!

Oddly...Purolator was able to leave it at a convenient downtown drop centre where I could just stop in on my lunch hour and get it.

Suffice it to say I am REALLY P!SSED OFF...and when I called 1-800-MY-APPLE to get hold of them, their phone system said there office hours didn't start until 9am CENTRAL TIME and then hung up on me!!!  Who the hell comes up with these ridiculous business hours???

Anyways, suffice it to say I will take some people's advice next time and order from an Apple authorized dealer next time to save me this stupidity.

Apple may make great hardware...but they absolutely SUCK at customer service.

End of rant...thank you for listening...if you indeed reached the end of this message. ;)

I feel your pain. When mine came, same deal on the West Coast, but my husband called the local Fed Ex office and asked for us to be the last drop off of the day or to call him when they were 20 minutes away so he could come home. They actually agreed to that, and followed through with it! I happened to get off early and that helped but man talk about a frustrating experience especially on a Friday! It sure would be nice to have the option of pick up or delivery, it would be so simple that way! You'll love your iMac!

With identity theft and stolen credit cards being common these days, it's obvious the policy is to prevent fraudulent orders but I find that "no pickup" policy rather strange myself. I guess Apple insists that the goods go to the credit card's billing address and no place else.

I'm not home during the day either, so I rent a Mailboxes Etc. box and notified all my credit cards with this address as a legitimate billing address. Whatever courier is used, they accept it for me, pay any moneys still due and I pick up the shipments at my convenience. I use this address for all internet purchases. Very convenient.

There was a thread about this a few weeks ago.
They do this to protect againts fraud. Sucks, even more so because they dont tell you about that until its too late!

I wish I could use Canada Post for everything--there's a branch near everybody, and even if Canada Post takes longer, I usually have to wait a couple days before I can make my way to the UPS or FedEx drop centre anyway...
