Hello all: I have a question on my internet connection. I currently have Rogers Hi-Speed and it is a fairly large portion of my cable bill. I was wondering if anyone has converted to the mobile Stick modem and whether there are any savings to be had.
I do a fair bit of research on the web and also look at the baseball games, which means on line a fairly long time. Thoughts, I know the charges for their use of the data phones [ iphone etc ] are scandalous .

just go to rogers.com and look at the rates...if i'm not mistaken they're about the same as the iphone data plans

Unfortunately there are a lot of factors to be considered when looking at HSDPA internet vs Cable internet like:
- HSDPA: you can only use it on one computer at a time, so you cant network.
- If you do an average amount downloading, you will likely need to go with a larger data allotment, which will cost $$ BUT, you can take it with you anywhere.
- Do you use data on your cell phone? If so, you can use it to tether to your laptop, if you require mobility.
This whole Rogers "Mobile Internet Stick" is pure BS and a marketing gimmick if you ask me. A friend of mine has a data stick and pays almost $40 a month for internet + $25 for his blackberry data + home internet. A simpler solution is to get a data plan for blackberry and just tether your phone to your laptop when you require mobile internet. With a BOLD, it is quite fast.
Plus with home internet- no agreements, with mobile, it can be two years. Just call Robbers and tell them that Bell wants to give you a corporate package and make Rogers meet realistic price drops. I bitched and moaned for an hour, and now I'm paying $101, taxes in, per month for High Speed Express (10 mb/s) + home phone and VIP cable for the next year. I WAS paying $137 before after the 12 month bait and switch period.
Also- something to think about, the mobile internet is only theoretically 7mb/s, but in actuality it is closer to 3. They are bragging about the new HSDPA+ 21mb/s in the big 5 in Canada, but we'll see the truth in that as the system starts to sag...

No savings - if you download anything, watch videos, or do anything that uses any bandwidth, you will gain super huge bills, while getting fairly slow speed unless you are within a few hundred feet of one of their towers. It's all about selling you something that looks convenient and inexpensive, but in the end, is costly and will end up with you posting about how you got a $954 bill one month because you downloaded e-mail and watched a YouTube video...
