so I really messed up my existing itunes library after moving it to external drive

I have fixed that problem ( i think!) and before I go and screw up my iphone I want to make sure i don't screw up my apps and music again

here is where I am right now:
when I cradle my iphone to my mac and my phone shows up in devices, none of the apps I have installed show up in my applications section anymore and my previous settings for music are now blank

should I leave these 2 sections uncheck for now , do a sync and then check them again next time I sync or should I have them check right now ?

First, I think it would be best to just have your music library and video on your external drive (i.e only the itunes music folder in the itunes folder the rest can stay on your computers harddrive. In order to sync you will need to have your external drive plugged in and in itunes under the "advanced tab" have it directed to your external drive. You will need to add all new music only when you drive is connected and pointing to the external drive or you will obviously have multiple places where music will now reside. In addition, while you are in the advanced tab make sure to have the copy music to itunes folder checked as well as the keep music orgainized checked. If you haven't done this already it will need to organize your files and if you have a big library it may take some time.

I assume that you have an iphone playlist that you use to sync with?

If so, you shouldn't have a problem at all with the sync after this point.

Good Luck.

tx for the reply, pretty much got everything working again

my itunes library is on the external drive, my iphoto was but i moved it back ... strange issues with emptying the trash that would cause iphoto 2008 to crash

having my library on the external drive is great, now just to get itunes installed on my hp server so I don't have to have itunes open on my mac all the time!

I am following instructions from this
Apple TV - MediaSmartServerWiki (http://www.mediasmartserver.net/wiki/index.php/Apple_TV)

but am stuck at the beginning with how do I connect to my server to install itunes

"Point the RDC to your MSS and use the "/console" keyword to login directly to the MSS' console. Use your administrator password."

when I bring up my RDC (All Programs / Accessories / Communication / Remote Desktop Connection) and browse I get the domain workgroup does not contain any terminals

and I am not sure if I need to remote access enabled within my WHS console?
