Interesting, I've been trouble shooting with Shaw Cable and here are some results.
HP Pav 933Mhz (256mb)
Up: 5.78 mb/s
Down: 1.21 mb/s
G4 400 TiPB (512mb)
Up: 4.4 mb/s
Down: 1.29 mb/s
Interesting difference - despite multiple tests, it's always around the same.
It gets more interesting when the TiPB goes wireless on a DI-624 D-Link with 128bit encryption with an old Airport Card 802.11b.
G4 400 TiPB (512MB)
Up: 2.6 mb/s
Down: 0.79 mb/s
I'm FLOORED that my wireless is that .... "bad"

You might have some network noise.
But going thru wireless does degrade the signal...
usually not by that much though...

How would I determine if there's network noise?

I have Rogers Extreme and have great speed.
But have found that I loose 1Mb/s going wireless. (1000 kb/s)
Hard wired I receive anywhere from 1.9Mb/s to 4.4 Mb/s.

 3.9 mb/s!! Wow!
What on earth could be going on here?! Obviously there's something on either my setup or TiPB.
Does anyone have some advice?

Interact, noise can often be caused by several things.
1. Is your router in very close proximity to your HP. Turn off the HP and see if that makes a difference.
2. Is your router close to a wireless phone base, wireless phone, cell phone. Turn off or unplug and test.
3. Is your router near your electrical panel.
4. Is your router or Ti book near a TV. Unplug TV and test.
5. Do you have electric heat. If so are you near a radiator.
My wireless was losing a lot due to my HP 1ghz Athlon. Also, it improved again when I moved the Panasonic 2.4 to the other side of the desk.
Now I have very little to no difference between wired and wireless. This is wireless below.

I knew there was a loss of performance going wireless, but it's a huge hit for my system 1.8 mb/s. That's steep. I hope to try out a new iBook with an AE card.
I'm lost as to the consistent difference on a wired connection. I've done the speed test on each machine over 15 times in the last 5 days. In essence, "all things are equal" between the wired TiPB and the HP. The results I've posted above are pretty much the average, not a one time trial.
