: Need a few Apple Logos...
RC51Pilot Oct 8th, 2004, 01:29 PM I need to find some cool Apple logo's that are fairly large so I can pretty up my Windoze desktop. Anyone got any websites?
I'd really like a big white or graphite one I can plop on a dark background in windows.
Maybe some of you graphics guys could send one my way?
Thanks.

TroutMaskReplica Oct 8th, 2004, 05:31 PM if you hit shift option k you will get the apple logo at your text insertion point. try it in textedit. it is actually a character that you can see in keyboard viewer if you launch it and press that key combo.
i was going to post an example at 1024 x 768 but when i scaled it up it became apparent the logo is not exactly the same as the official version - it looks like it has been modified to look better at small sizes (as it was intended to be used).
oh heck i'll just post it so you can see what i mean. maybe it's good enough for you. if you need a larger size just holler and either myself or someone else will post it here. it takes two seconds to do.

(saved as jpeg 'cause fotopages doesn't seem to allow GIFs)
edit: sigh. looks like fotopages cropped my image.
Gerbill Oct 8th, 2004, 07:19 PM Using Photoshop CS:
1.) Type an Apple symbol (Option-Shift-K). Make it as big as you need.
2.) Use Layer Styles to make it as fancy as you like.

Incorrect with respect to what? I'm looking at the big chrome apple on the DVD drawer of my eMac - looks pretty close to me.
If I needed an exact match, it would be easy to change, though. Scan a copy of the "correctly leafed" logo, open as a template in Illustrator CS - make a new layer - type an Apple symbol - convert to outlines - edit the paths in the leaf until it matches the template - save - open in Photoshop - etc.

Manny thanks. smile.gif
Gerbill Oct 8th, 2004, 09:35 PM OK, they say a picture is worth 1000 words. This picture was made as a 2-layer Photoshop CS image. One layer was made simply by scaling a screen shot of the Apple logo from the "About this Mac" window of my Panther install. The red outline was made from a typographical Apple logo made with Option-Shift-K and scaled to the same size, made transparent and given a red stroke.
There are a few minor differences in the shape of the Apple, but nothing too glaring. I'm not trying to be a smart guy here - I just wanted to confirm the evidence of my own eyes - there's no significant difference in shape between the logo Apple is using in Panther and the Apple logo symbol in various fonts.

TroutMaskReplica Oct 8th, 2004, 09:36 PM there are errors in the body of the apple too, but if you look at the bezier curves in the leaf, it is drawn with 4 anchor points when it could have been drawn with two, and if you were to slice the shape from pole to pole you'll find that the two halves created are not symmetrical when in fact they should be.

OK, if you need to be right, I'll admit it - YOU'RE RIGHT! Happy?
Since the whole idea is merely to make a desktop pattern though, maybe we can cut the designers at Apple a little slack and specify that it's close enough for government work?

bill, i noticed your logo is cleaner than mine. maybe i've just got a really sh*tty version of the character for whatever reason.
