HURRAY!!!! The mayor is SO excited!!!! :) :) :) :)

No Line On The Horizon, the new studio album from U2, will be released on Monday 2nd March 2009.

Written and recorded in various locations, No Line On The Horizon is the group’s 12th studio album and is their first release since the 9 million selling album How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, released in late 2004.

Sessions for No Line On The Horizon began last year in Fez, Morocco, continued in the band’s own studio in Dublin, before moving to New York’s Platinum Sound Recording Studios, and finally being completed at Olympic Studios in London.

The album calls on the production talents of long-time collaborators Brian Eno and Danny Lanois, with additional production by Steve Lillywhite.

Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois AND Steve "the god" Lillywhite??!

This may be the first U2 album I've been excited about in a long time. I thought the band lost their way pretty badly from 1990-2000 (apart from Passengers, which I loved). They, like Bowie, have spent this decade clawing their way back from the edge of irrelevance, and doing a pretty good job of it.

I think the mayor is right to be excited... this U2 effort will be very well received.

No pun intended? ;) I LOVE the 90's stuff. Achtung Baby, Zooropa and POP are some of my favourite stuff and the POP tour live from Mexico is amazing, although a lot of casual fans would agree with your sentiment.

I wouldn't say they've been "clawing" the last decade. All that you can't leave behind was number 1 in 28 countries, won 7 grammies including record of the year and best song of the year and best rock album of the year.

How to dismantle an atomic bomb, won album of the year, and sold 9 million copies. Vertigo tour was the 2nd highest grossing tour of all time. (Despite the fact that floor seats cost only $50)

I know one can get into all kinds of arguments about how relevant grammies are, or commercial success is, but I'd have to laugh at the notion that they are "clawing back from irrelevance" ;)

Anyways, can't wait till tour information. This time around when they come to Toronto, I'm taking a week off and going to every show. I just hope they don't play and sell out only 4 shows at the ACC. :)
