: Fido is overwhelmed

They have no idea what iPhone stock is where.
Fido stores can be out of stock but Wireless Wave is not.
If you ordered by phone they haven't the slightest clue when you will receive it.

Ten minutes ago I was speaking to a Fido CSR asking to have my language preference changed to English as they sent me a French email. I then informed him that I had not received the email I requested confirming the details of my contract. He said they would be included with the phone, so I asked is the phone's eta still five days from when I ordered. He replied no it will arrive September 1st.

I told him that was too long and asked to be able to pick up a phone at a store. He gave me the company line that he was powerless to help me. I pressed on for a bit and then gave up.

Five minutes ago UPS arrived with my iPhone.

Perhaps the are clueless, but as I understand it you still received the iPhone as originally expected. So what's the worry? :)

I won't hold this against Fido as they are dealing with an unusual problem but if this was my first impression of any other business I would go out of my way to avoid dealing with them again.

The purpose of my post was not a rant but a cautionary note to others still waiting for their phone.
It was to inform them the info they receive from Fido will most likely be incorrect.

Good for you that you got your iPhone!

I am still waiting for my iPhone. I ordered 8Gig iPhone on Jul 22. When I ordered it, they told me it's going to be 3-5 business days (that's the reason why I ordered 8Gig since 16Gig was expected to ship after Aug 1.)

After a week, still nothing. I called them and asked them about the iPhone, and they said it's delayed till Aug 4. Fine.

Aug 10 comes, and I am still waiting. Gave them a call, and they told me it's delayed "again" till Aug 22. I tried to cancel the order, and they said they can't do it. The CSR told me that there is nothing she can do "in any shape or form". Sigh...

If they told me I would be waiting for iPhone for a month, I wouldn't have ordered it over the phone. Fido is unbelievable.

Fido is a mess, I have a friend waiting like you are.

Not to rub salt in your wound but I ordered over the phone on Friday the 8th, they shipped it yesterday. I also switched to a 8GB as the non-bricks and mortar 16GBs were back ordered.

On Wednesday Wireless Wave in Toronto Eaton Centre had all three phones in stock (six if you believe their claim Rogers and Fido stock are different) but as I have no photo ID they would not sell me one.

My CSR also told me I could not cancel but could "cancel" by refusing the package at the door from UPS.
If I was you I'd head to a store, or maybe try retentions first.

Ouch! That really hurts!
I just got off the phone talking to a CSR, and got the same answer. Wait until Aug 22.
Interestingly, the guy told me that I cannot refuse the shipment since UPS don't take back the package. Is this true? Or I got mis-informed?

I am so confused and angered by whole iPhone thing with Fido.

He told me more than once to refuse the package from UPS if I wanted to cancel.

I don't know if a store will let you have a phone as you must be already in the database.

Yeah, I've been slightly disappointed with Fido's service as well. The biggest reason I'm staying with them are the FidoDollars, I had quite a bit accumulated, and wanted to keep them. Here's what I had to go through:

Go to the Fido Eaton's store, lots of phones in stock, but no go: have to go through customer service to transfer me from prepaid to monthly to keep my FidoDollars.

Okay, so I call in, but have to be put on a no-commitment monthly plan temporarily because it takes two business days to transfer the FidoDollars so I can use them for the purchase of the phone. She also offered to put the data plan on my account right away so I can use it with my current phone. They don't know it, but I do have a 1st-gen, so sure, I let her do that. She tells me I have to call back in two business days to order the phone, or to try in-store.

Great, walk back into the Eaton's Fido store a few days later, and got three different stories from three different reps within the span of an hour:

First rep, after taking a look at my account info: No iPhones in stock
Five minutes later, got a friend to go in and ask another rep: LOTS of iPhones in stock, but only if you buy one with a Data Plan. I jump in and say "I already have a data plan, can I buy one"? Then she flips the story and says the only phones they have are on hold for other customers. Riight, probably only wanted to bother with the sale if she could have the data plan commission for herself.
And lastly, the only sane rep there took a look at the account and said that no matter what phone or plan I wanted, they can't do anything in-store for new monthly subscribers for four months. She even showed me her screen with all of the available plans/phones greyed out for my account. I had to go through customer service if I wanted to change anything. Super.

A call to customer service confirmed it, and I ordered the iPhone 8GB through them. That was also Friday, Aug 8th, so you have me pretty hopeful that it'll arrive soon, Malco. But I won't be surprised if I only see it in September, either...

Oh and Malco, did they offer to email you when they shipped the phone? And if so, I'm assuming they never did?

Contrary to their claim they did not ask for my email.
I interrupted what sounded like him wrapping up the call to ask him to email me the details of the contract.

During my call today after being told it would ship in september he said they would email the tracking number to me.

The only email I have received from them was in French welcoming me to Fido.

They did send me two French text messages again welcoming me and then telling me my voice mail password.

Later I received another text this time in English but it was generated from an english web page while trying to register and get a web password. That password is still not working.
