: Two times the SAF?
cowasaki Jul 19th, 2008, 11:02 PM I think I have reached the last straw with fido and the whole iPhone. On friday after a week of use and several long distance calls I was informed that the brochure and package sold to me (couples $65) was printed incorrectly and the agent should have pointed out that it is 1000 long distance minutes between account holders and not 1000 minutes to anyone, which is clearly stated in the brochure. I am waiting to hear their verdict after I have called, went to the store and then faxed the brochure.
I digress...
This afternoon I was searching the internet taking a look at my rate plan and others and I noticed that there is a SAF on my voice plan and there is also a SAF on my $30 gig data plan. Is this correct?
I am not paying 4 system access fees (couples plans) at 26 or 27 dollar to have this phone
Any insight?
Sorry for the rant!

Vote with your dollars. Nothing else matters.
cowasaki Jul 19th, 2008, 11:22 PM ummm so does that mean I am right? I get charged a SAF on my Voice plan as well as on the data plan?
Just seems like you are kinda filling the tank twice.
I will vote with my money if that is the case.

Who said you have to pay a saf on the data plan? Its only for each voice line.
cowasaki Jul 19th, 2008, 11:31 PM That is what I thought...but (I would link you to the Fido page but it doesn't link properly)
T Booth | Rogers, Bell, Fido, Solo Mobile, Virgin Mobile (http://www.tbooth.ca/fido/rateplans_details.asp?RatePlanID=1265&CID=230)
So it appears that I will pay a SAF on my voice plan and one on my data plan also.
I just want to know if this is correct...I will call fido in the morning, rather go in, but thought someone here might know.
MacGYVER Jul 19th, 2008, 11:37 PM Geesh, and I thought Rogers was bad..... that site you linked has so many errors in it on the DATA ONLY PLAN of $30 for 6GB that I would say, just call Fido up and be polite and see what's up.
Most likely they will fix what ever error occurred and correct the amount of SAF fees.
MacGYVER Jul 19th, 2008, 11:42 PM This is what happens when you ARE NOT prepared as a company to take on such a huge task of selling the iPhone in Canada. Not Rogers nor Fido were prepared, and only here in Canada can you read thousands of pages of the exact same questions with tons of different stories on the internet on how one person got this and the other didn't.
Getting an iPhone 3G shouldn't be this difficult. Select voice plan, select data plan, add features and off you go. However, the exact opposite seems to be happening from what I have read. Interesting to say the least!
cowasaki Jul 19th, 2008, 11:51 PM Thanks for the help and insight.
I am still unclear and will be contacting fido pending wait times in the near future. They said they would call me back on monday or tuesday regarding the 1000 minutes and brochure I faxed in, perhaps I'll wait till then.
Cheers!
HowEver Jul 19th, 2008, 11:56 PM Where does it say you pay $6.95 on both voice and data? That does not exist on one phone line.
The link you provided is for a no-voice-minutes plan. It looks like the plan you get if you don't want *any* voice minutes. Where other people are paying $20 or $25 or $35 etc. for a bucket of minutes (200, 500, whichever) the plan you linked to has NO voice minutes included, and when you actually want to make a call, it's $1.00 per minute. IF this is your plan, there is ONE $6.95 SAF and no other.
If, on the other hand, you have a voice plan as well as the data plan, and not this no-voice $1/minute if you do make a call plan, then you also have only one $6.95 charge per month.
You could have found this out if you called fido customer service. Try " *611 " from your phone. It's free. It's probably available 24 hours per day. Give them a call.
Finally, did you not sign a contract? Where all the charges were spelled out?
That is what I thought...but (I would link you to the Fido page but it doesn't link properly)

cowasaki Jul 20th, 2008, 12:04 AM Ahh yes. It is clear thank you. I suppose it would help it I could inference also.
Now for the matter of the 1000 long distance minutes. I've been over that with a fine tooth comb and I'm right on that front, so we will have to see if they honour their brochure and give me the 1000 LD anytime/anyone minutes or if they renege and just give me the "between account shareholders". I did notice that they have updated it on their website to say LD minutes are only for use between account member. Fortunately I kept the brochure handed to me by the fido rep.
Sigh.
HowEver Jul 20th, 2008, 12:18 AM I think you'll actually win on the LD minutes front. At the very least, they might put this on your account as a charge, and then credit back the total amount.
Which voice plan do you have, btw?

cowasaki Jul 20th, 2008, 12:27 AM Couples $65.
HowEver Jul 20th, 2008, 12:32 AM Couples $65.
Ah, there you are. Two lines, two SAFS (*NOT* FOUR). I dislike couples' plans. (I missed the couples' plan mention in the OP.)
Are you sure the brochure applies to couples' plans?
btw did you get two iPhones?
cowasaki Jul 20th, 2008, 12:56 AM Yes I got two iPhones. And the brochure is very clear about the long distance minutes only on the couples $65 plan.
Why don't you like the couples plan? Personal preference, the fact that your partner can eat your minutes, or value?

I have different calling habits, perhaps. Also, with multiple lines, if you ever need to cancel one of them, you can if they aren't on a couples plan. There are plans that offer what I need, for less than half the couples' plan cost, x 2.
For the same reason I don't bundle my services with Rogers, even though I'd get a discount. This ties them all to the same contract end date and requires a penalty if you cancel one service, something like a clawback of the discounts received. And until I get an iPhone (I'm waiting for corporate pricing) I don't have any services on contract at all.
cowasaki Jul 20th, 2008, 01:14 AM Yes I do understand the implications, although they do not concern me that much. Different strokes for different folks. My partner is also able to write off her portion of the bill or a % thereof. I'm happy with it and I suppose thats all that matters.
Thank you for clearing up the SAF fee, and the LD credit rebate. Both of those seem to be bang on. Although I will lose long distance to the US (originally stated 1000 LD to anyone in Canada and the US), I will still get the 1000 LD to anyone in Canada (not just my account member) for an additional $10 which will be rebated on my account. Although I am waiting for the callback from Fido to confirm.
