Where did the August holiday go? I sure hope that it still exists in the real world, wherever that may be located.

Civic Holiday is the first Monday in August, though it is not a statutory holiday. It is a holiday for the people that basically get every day off, like the Federal Government, and City Hall "workers". Many places do give it off as a holiday, though a few places I have worked at did not pay for the holiday, since it isn't a Statutory Holiday.

Actually, no, it is not a statutory holiday in Alberta.

See: Paid Statutory Holidays in Employment Standards Legislation (http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/en/lp/spila/clli/eslc/27statutory_holidays_synoptic_table.shtml) or the General Holidays and General Holiday Pay (http://employment.alberta.ca/documents/WRR/WRR-ES-FI_esfs1.pdf) .pdf, which is found at the Government of Alberta's Employment Standards Facts and Information (http://employment.alberta.ca/cps/rde/xchg/hre/hs.xsl/999.html) page.

As a (provincial) public employee I resent that remark. That said, I do get 44 vacation days plus 11 "holidays" per year.

PS: In BC, the first Monday in August is called BC Day, which is a statutory holiday (http://www.labour.gov.bc.ca/esb/facshts/statutory_holidays.htm) in Beautiful British Columbia.
