: Firefox 3 Message Field Issues
Flipstar Jun 20th, 2008, 02:31 PM Alright, can't seem to find my answer searching around here. Hopefully I'm putting this in the right forum.
I'm having some issues with the Message fields on this site when posting or replying to a thread. The textbox is a greyish tint, and I can't seem to see my text cursor or even navigate through the message box with my mouse or arrow keys. This has been an issue with the RC candiates with Firefox as well. Safari works perfectly, and I haven't been able to find similar issues by other people.
Any ideas? Thanks.
kb244 Jun 20th, 2008, 02:37 PM I haven't had that issue either. Perhaps you need to completely remove firefox then reinstall it, by completely remove I also mean killing it's preference file, and whatever it left behind under application support folder.
Especially since it sounds like a very localized problem.
GrapeApe Jun 27th, 2008, 10:31 PM I have the same issue whenever I try to quote someone or edit a post.
GrapeApe Jul 28th, 2008, 09:29 AM Any update on this issue?
I am being forced to use IE for this site...ewwwwwww.

I have FF3, and I don't have the issue.
However, why use IE instead of Safari (Safari would been my second choice if FireFox was not working)
Even if you're on Windows, Safari is available for it.
Apple - Safari (http://www.apple.com/safari/)
Or you can download FireFox2
Mozilla Firefox 2 (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html)

I just clicked on the "quote" icon and this text box below it opened and is working fine. I'm on FF3. Not sure what your issue might be. Maybe it's strictly local.
modsuperstar Sep 14th, 2008, 10:32 PM I have the same issue you have, you aren't crazy. The post box is virtually useless in FF3 for me.
Irie Guy Sep 15th, 2008, 07:13 AM Well I'm glad to see I was not the only one having this issue. It is not all message boards that I have a problem with. IN fact it seems to be ehMac only. What happens for me is the cursor essentially disappears and you cannot move your position in a response.
SINC Sep 15th, 2008, 11:10 PM What I fail to understand is why, when Apple provides a perfectly good browser (Safari) with the Mac, why people have to try other browsers.
I have used Safari since inception without issue. Seems to me people bring problems upon themselves needlessly.
Am I missing something by just using Safari? I think not.

As a developer I find FireFox to be far more suited for me especially with plugins like FireBug (which is great for debugging Ajax based scripts). Also its little things that are nice, like being able to right click and choose "view background image" which you can't do in Safari.
Little niche stuff like that. Also I know people complain of the 'look' of FireFox, but that can be changed unlike Safari, I have mine set to lilFox which is a minimalistic theme with no frills.
Also for some common users I haven't seen Safari become as secure as IE or Firefox in regards to phishing scams and stuff like that.
That and adBlock works VERY well in fireFox.
In any case Safari is my second favorite browser behind Firefox.

One of the main reasons I use Firefox is its customizability through the addition on third party addons. My all time favourite being Mouse Gestures. Gestures are so built into my "hard wiring" now every time I try and use Safari I find it completely frustrating that I can't use them. If there is a way to add gestures to Safari, I might consider using it more.
modsuperstar Sep 25th, 2008, 02:51 PM Safari is all well and good, but I find your reasoning for using it pretty suspect. I think most of the savvy web community loathes the fact that so many people still use IE6. The reason a lot of them do is because it's factory installed right there for them by Microsoft.
As a Firefox user I exercise my right to choice when it comes to web browsing. The fact that it is multiplatform appeals to me mainly because I can test something and be fairly certain it will work in Windows too. Some of the extensions are absolutely indispensable, to the point that using other browsers without these options feels pretty hollow and lacking.

Based on site stats Very very very very very few people visiting my site ever use IE6, I probably had one or two IE6 visitors in the past month, where as people using IE7 account for 99% of IE visitors.

Rock Lobster Oct 9th, 2008, 11:57 AM Back to the original issue... this is happening to me, too. No Cursor or cursor control.
Has anyone resolved this in Firefox yet? (other than switching browsers)?
