Hi there everybody! We're coming up to our 2nd Annual ehMac MS Bike Tour. Last year, Team ehMac raised over $1600 to help battle MS. (Multiple Sclerosis, not Microsoft) ;)

http://www.ehmac.com/msbiketour/ms_2004.jpg

I'm asking everyone to please Click here to pledge your financial support (https://opalnet.mssociety.ca/opal.net/ors/index.aspx?L=2&PID=0656641&PCID=1059299). (Note, for Safari users, please turn off "Block Pop-Up Windows" under the Safari menu for link to work.) You will receive a full tax receipt for your donation.

Our goal is to raise well over $2000 this year. So please help by donating. Or...

If you're feeling more ambitious... please Join Team ehMac (https://opalnet.mssociety.ca/opal.net/ors/index.aspx?PTID=0019477) on the MS Bike Tour in Toronto on Sunday, September 12th and help raise your own pledges! (Note, for Safari users, please turn off "Block Pop-Up Windows" under the Safari menu for link to work.) To join Team ehMac, click the above link to register for the MS Bike Tour. Then click on the “My Events” menu option, you will see a link called “Join an existing team" - You then can join "Team ehMac"

We'll keep this thread updated on pledge totals.

Click here (http://mssociety.ca/en/events/biketour/RONA%20MS%20Bike%20Tour%20Radio%20PSA_30E.mp3) for an audio message about the MS Bike Tour.

Thanks for your support!

I'll just add that I've also signed up, I'll be riding in Abbotsford on Aug. 22.

Thanks for the comments about the pop-up blocking. I had problems when I registered and ended up using Internet Explorer.

Hey macfoto, were you able to join Team ehMac while riding in a different tour? No, I think the teams have to be for the same event. BTW, how long of a ride will you be going on? The one in Abbotsford is 35 or 70km, I hope to be able to do the 70km one.

ehMax

Last year was about 50 km... I think its the same this year. smile.gif Keep me up-to-date on how much your raise and I'll tally it with the ehMac total. smile.gif

Hey Mayor!!

I've just pledged $100.00 in my own name but on behalf of our local Mac User Group, Macintosh Users East [MaUsE] here in the Oshawa, Ontario, area. On behalf of MaUsE, I'm challenging other Mac User Groups in Canada to match our pledge and help Mr. Mayor make it to Ehmac's goal.

Good luck!

Alright Jim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://binaryrhyme.com/ubbicons/dance.gif http://binaryrhyme.com/ubbicons/dance2.gif

Jim Foster was the leader of MaUsE back in the day when I lived in the Oshawa area and was a member with my brand new LC 475. The MUG meetings were great and we had a great bulletin board based on First Class software.

If it wasn't for MaUsE and REALLY getting me into Macs and bulletin board systems... there'd be no ehMac! smile.gif

Thanks so much for the very generous $100 donation! We're up to $150 now! I hope other MUG's across Canada step up to the challenge. I emailed my local MUG, WatRMUG (http://homepage.mac.com/watrmug/) to see if they're up to the challenge. :D If you know the MUG in your area, let them know of the challenge!

By the way Jim... you're MUG has won a copy of the Mac OS X Panther Pocket guide!

We're starting to pick up some steam now! Let's go ehMac members... any small donation counts!

With online donations and pledges being mailed in, we're up to $300!

I still need another 2 riders to make up an official "Team" for riding. So far it's just me and Script Kiddie in Toronto. (I'm taking one of the ehMacettes in the Chariot trailer this year)

Who's up for a fun day of biking, raising pledges and meeting the Mayor?! smile.gif

Hey folks... just finished talking with the folks at the MS Society.

Here's some good news. If you are unable to participate in the Toronto MS Bike Tour, but you would like to participate in your area... you can and still be a part of Team ehMac! Just sign up for a Bike Tour in your neck of the woods (http://mssociety.ca/en/events/biketour/local.htm). Then you can create your own team called Team ehMac. (You'll be the captain of your team in your area).

At the end of all the tours, the MS Society will total all the donations to Team ehMac to get a grand total.

So, I need some people to be captains of Team ehMac across Canada and then recruit some more members.

The Toronto Tour has about 4 people signed up now. How about a West Coast (http://mssociety.ca/en/events/biketour/local.htm) team going against Toronto? graemlins/heybaby.gif (I'm sure they won't as they know they'll get whipped by Toronto) :D ;)

If you're interested but have questions, let me know. Any comments at all, let me know!

Please help spread the word about the Team ehMac MS Bike Tour!!!!!

A HUUUUUUUUGE thanks to RR for the lovely pledge of $50!

http://binaryrhyme.com/ubbicons/redbounce.gif

The generosity of ehMac members is amazing!

People often talk about making the world a better place... we're actually doing it! Money contributed to the MS Society WILL make the lives of fellow Canadians with MS better!

I encourage even more ehMac members to come forward and pledge financial support to help fellow Canadians with MS.

http://binaryrhyme.com/ubbicons/rahrahrah.gif Go ehMac Go! Go ehMac Go! http://binaryrhyme.com/ubbicons/rahrahrah.gif

With online donations and pledges being mailed in, we're up to $350! We need YOUR help to reach our goal of $2000!

ALRIGHT!!!!!! Good stuff farfisa!!!!

http://binaryrhyme.com/ubbicons/groupflip.gif

Our total is at $450... almost a quarter of the way there! :D

You're right... with the good...no... GREAT people of ehMac, we should be at $2000 and no time! Canadians are extremely generous!

http://binaryrhyme.com/ubbicons/canada.gif

Rest assured farfisa... the $100 pledge exempts you from all biking. smile.gif Was trying to convince Heart to go biking, but I think he's going to opt for a donation again this year again... which is fine by me. I hear he's going to break the record this year and donate over $100. Do I hear $101? graemlins/heybaby.gif ;)

Just wait until Script Kiddie and others biking with the tour start getting in their donations... we may just have to up that goal!

Every donation counts! Even $5 and $10 donations are much welcome folks!

I just want to say that yesterday (Sunday) morning I was out riding for the ride in Abbotsford and it went well. When I headed out I wasn't sure what it would turn out like as the rain has returned here to the Fraser Valley. There was some rain during the ride, but it wasn't too heavy and the weather improved and there was even some sunshine for the BBQ. I did the long route(70km) around the Abbotsford area.

I didn't have a team, but that would be something that would be great if we could get a group for next years ride for those in the Vancouver and Fraser Valley area.

All the best to those who are going to be riding in September.

It online donations between Script Kiddie and myself, we've raised $1010 online. I have another $100 offline donations and as far as I know Script Kiddie has at least $200. That brings our known total to...... $1310 with 4 days to go!!!!

Loafer and his sig other are riding and while they don't have any online donations they may have some offline ones. Any updates Loafer?

I still have to hit a few friends and family members.

Sorry I haven't been keeping the thread too up to date. When I got back from a weeks camping a couple of weeks ago, the MS Society web site has been acting very strange in terms of generating reports. Donations from this year have been mixed in with donations from last year and other problems.

Thanks to all those who donated who I haven't personally recognized yet. And thanks to those who are going to donate who haven't yet to get us to the $2000 mark and beyond! smile.gif

Normally.. I am not.. but for this cause.. I will never seek to not donate money to it...

I worked at a hospital, got to meet quite a few MS patients.. and they are the most humble people in the world...

They have a total different view on the world and I got to share with them.. I loved it!

Come on people.. donate to this great cause..

Well we did it! What an awesome day! Weather was absolutely beautiful for a nice bike ride. Here's the day by numbers:

- Distance of ride today according to my odometer: 48.12 KM

- Biking time it took to complete: 2 hours, 51 minutes and 15 seconds.

- Average speed was 16.9 KM (Not bad for pulling a trailer with a child and waiting for two other guys to catch up) :D ;)

- Maximum speed was 37 km per hour. (Don't tell Mrs. ehMax) ;)

- Total riders today at the Toronto ride: 270

- Total money raised: $130,000.

I think I can speak for Script Kiddie, Loafer and myself that it was an absolute blast. We were all saying at the end how its a shame more ehMac members don't come out. What an cool feeling to come riding into the finish line and have music blaring and about 50 people all cheering their hearts out for you and giving you high fives.

Next year, I want to see a dozen or so ehMac riders from around the GTA to come out. We'll have a party afterwards or something. smile.gif

----

Thanks to everyone who pledged or in someway helped out. I'm sorry if you donated and I didn't thank you personally. Together we raised $2296 dollars. (Loafer came in with $315 raised). If you haven't donated, but would still like to, you can still donate to the MS Society on behalf of Team ehMac. The link in the first post of this thread will still work for the next month.

A few more donations have trickled in and I'll update everyone with the final exact total raised in the coming weeks.

Thanks again everyone! Let's give ourselves a round of applause!

I gotta say I had a tremendous time!

It was great meeting Script Kiddie, EhMax and little EhMax. Quite possibly the nicest people ever. The event was really well organised with complimentary breakfast and lunch with a whole range of drinks and snacks along the route was fanatastic.

The 50km sounds pretty daunting but inn the end it was pretty easy.....there was one hurting hill but Script Kiddie kept my mind off my burning muscles by pointing out the mansions as we rode by. We got the impression we weren't going fast enough for the big guy smile.gif

I highly recommend more people come out next year, it really was a great way to spend a sunny Sunday.

Thanks for getting me involved EHMax.
