: iphone 1.0.2 revirginizer out
jackyk Oct 23rd, 2007, 03:49 PM iPhone Elite team announces "revirginizer" release - The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) (http://www.tuaw.com/2007/10/23/iphone-elite-team-announces-revirginizer-release/)
Seems to work but seems very confusing too
kloan Oct 23rd, 2007, 04:49 PM This announcement is too early. That thing is FAR from a nice, easy to use GUI-based application. I'm not even going to touch it. Sure, I'd like the option to turn EDGE off (properly), but I'll wait until a simple app does the whole process for me.
jackyk Oct 23rd, 2007, 05:01 PM yup. i have a fully functioning iphone.. why risk it for little things that dont even matter? until a simplified, for sure version/guide is out, i'd stay away
zlinger Oct 23rd, 2007, 08:11 PM Same here. I'm going to wait until well after Leopard is released because things may change yet again. I've had way too many scares moding my iPhone. It's stable right now and want to keep it that way until a well tested GUI interface is released. Might donate a few bucks to the Elite Team in support of their continued efforts.
lcsim Oct 24th, 2007, 02:05 AM Just tried it on my 1.0.2 iPhone previously unlocked with unlock-fast.pxl. Re-"virgin" process completed smoothly. Took a while and some re-attempts on activate and jailbreak process (iNdependence refuses to jailbreak/activate after upgrading to 1.1.1 from 1.0.2 "virgin", had to restore back to 1.0.2 firmware and prepare for 1.1.1 upgrade using iNdependence, then reupdate to 1.1.1 and unlock with the new AnySim).
After a few interesting twists, finally got it working properly under 1.1.1, fully unlocked on Fido .. Phew..
a7mc Oct 24th, 2007, 02:19 AM I just did the "revirginize" and unlock on my anySim unlocked 1.02 phone as well. I send a good amount of email and post to my blog a lot, so the double-tap space for a period was an important feature for me.
As lcsim mentioned, once I figured out that I had to do a full restore to 1.02 (option-click on restore and select the 1.02 firmware) before doing the upgrade to 1.1.1, everything went fine. It's a slow process, but not that hard for anyone with some Unix knowledge. The revirginizing is actually the easiest part! It's just one simple shell script you run, and you're done.
Anyway, just thought I'd share that this works fairly easily if you're handy with Unix. My phone is now 1.1.1 and fully unlocked.
simonca Oct 24th, 2007, 04:59 AM I just wanted to add up here that I also upgraded my iPhone to the new firmwire. It was an unlocked 1.0.2. For the people who are interested to do the job, I recommend you to follow the instructions at modmyiphone.
zlinger Oct 24th, 2007, 01:20 PM Does the voicemail notification work in 1.1.1? I hear it does not work consistently so may just stay with 1.0.2 unless convinced otherwise.
a7mc Oct 24th, 2007, 01:49 PM Well the voicemail indicator only partially worked for me even on 1.02. Every time I reset the phone (or restart springboard because I installed an app or a theme) the voicemail indicator would stay "stuck" on unless I left myself a real vm, then deleted it. Then it functioned normally until the next reset (which was not very often).
With 1.1.1, it appears to be working the same way. After I "fix it" by leaving a test message, it seems to work fine.

jackyk Oct 24th, 2007, 02:10 PM anyone on rogers have problems with the VM? what about the timestamp for received text messages?
lcsim Oct 24th, 2007, 03:31 PM VM notification and WhoCalled features via SMS had never worked with Fido on 1.0.2, still the same with 1.1.1. Just have to check VM manually each time I got a missed call.
simonca Oct 24th, 2007, 08:38 PM I tested my newly upgraded iPhone (1.1.1). The voice mail notification and SMS time tag works well. BTW, I am with Rogers.
djaikon Oct 25th, 2007, 12:50 PM I used the virginizer on an Anysim unlocked 1.02 phone. Upgraded to 1.1.1 no problem, voicemail icon works like a charm. I'm on Rogers as well.
fyrefly Oct 25th, 2007, 02:33 PM Virginizer worked like a charm. 1.1.1 in da Hizzouse! (joking... ;) )
mikeinmontreal Oct 25th, 2007, 03:56 PM What should you use if you buy a 1.1.1 iPhone?: Are these the steps?
Preparing to mod 1.1.1 iPhone - ModMyiPhone - Wiki (http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.php/Preparing_to_mod_1.1.1_iPhone)
fyrefly Oct 25th, 2007, 08:44 PM I do have one hiccup - which is a documented 1.1.1 problem (AFAIK?) - Yahoo Mail in the Mail app now displays a "The user name or PAssword for "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect.
I can't find a fix for this on the net. Some sites are suggesting it's 'cause of INDependence jailbreaking/activating.
ipodjon120 Oct 25th, 2007, 09:12 PM I bought an unlocked and heavily modified phone and I think this revirginizer tool might be my best solution to restore back to defaults and also upgrade to 1.1.1. What exact software do I need to do all of this, and what is the proper order? There are so many different methods and software out there, that I'm not sure what to use and what guides to follow. Please help! :)
jackyk Oct 25th, 2007, 09:51 PM idemocracy - Google Code (http://code.google.com/p/idemocracy/)
Somewhat of an automated program released..
I'm still confused though.
psxp Oct 25th, 2007, 11:08 PM anyone on rogers have problems with the VM? what about the timestamp for received text messages?
I am on Robbers
Voicemail works fine. text messaging time seems to be like 4hrs out though! :(
jackyk Oct 25th, 2007, 11:33 PM I posted a temporary solution for that:
http://www.ehmac.ca/ipod-itunes-iphone-apple-tv/56544-iphone-text-messages-wrong-time-stamp.html
Also, dumb question but... did you lose all contacts, photos, 3rd party apps after the whole process? I guess you can sync all contact and photos and music...
but, what about the apps? i swear I read somwhere that they stay
Munchie Oct 26th, 2007, 09:08 AM I just bricked my iPhone that I hardware unlocked on purpose ( really bored waiting for Leopard to arrive ) anyway followed mod my iphone instructions to the letter, downloaded the links provided, it failed several times, but quickly realised that if it failed, just restart the whole process from the beginning again it is quicker. Phone is back to unlocked and activated ( roger ), voice, you tube, text messaging and synced to itunes, everything running just like it was before. Did not update to 1.1.1. If the restore process does not hang, it took 24 minutes on my mac.
