I have no doubt that Time Machine will work with the Airport Disk Utility. The utility mounts a volume on your machine, just like connecting to networked Mac.

That being said, it would be a terrible idea. Data transfer speeds over wireless are not suitable for backups. A USB or FireWire drive is a much better idea.

I suppose that would depend on the volume of data. The first backup would take a while, but if you are sitting on a network, so what? I use Apple's Backup for incremental backups, and it's very fast.

It would be very useful for those who rarely have their portable in a position to hook up to a drive - and equally useful for those who are too disorganized etc to hook up to a drive.

Time Machine, backing up every hour, is perfectly suited to a wireless task, one the inital full backup has been made.

I'm currently using an 802.11n network at home and it can handle this just fine.
