: ehMac.ca MS Bike Tour 2007 - Raised $2060 (Over)
ehMax Jul 30th, 2007, 01:24 PM Hi folks. This year, my entire family and myself are going to do the Toronto MS Bike tour to raise money for the Canadian MS Society. Money goes towards research to find a cure for MS. Just in the past few days, news reports of Major Discoveries (http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20070727/ms_genes_070727/20070729?hub=TopStories) have been released.
Since ehMac.ca started, we have raised well over $3000 with 2 past bike tours. The year, the "ehMax Family Bikers" are set to raise another $3000. Myself, Mrs. ehMax, and the 3 ehMaxettes (11, 9 and 5) will all be doing the 50KM tour in Toronto on September, 9th, 2007. My two older ehMaxettes will be doing the entire bike ride while the youngest will be pulled in a trailer by myself.
Click here for the official ehMax Family Bikers MS Bike Tour Page (https://msors.mssociety.ca/Bike2007/SponsorTeam.aspx?&PID=976744&L=2) Here you can make a pledge to the team, and track our progress.

ehMax Jul 30th, 2007, 01:35 PM I'll start things off my donating $100 to the cause. :)
The gauntlet has been dropped. ;)
No donation is too small (OR big) :)
MissGulch Jul 30th, 2007, 03:15 PM Do you take Paypal?
ehMax Jul 30th, 2007, 03:21 PM Do you take Paypal?
Donations are just going directly to the Canadian MS Society through their secure, online credit card system. If you go to the page, you can also mail in a payment directly to them.
For transparency, admin reasons etc... ehMac.ca is not acting like a middleman for payments.
ehMax Jul 30th, 2007, 03:21 PM Wow... $400 already! :)
RicktheChemist Jul 30th, 2007, 03:27 PM Donated 25.00... good cause... good team!

The last 2 years after that, was unable to get out.
This year works out ok and thought it would be fun to go out with the whole family, "The ehMax Family Bikers".
We're distantly related to the Von Trapp family singers. :o

Beej Jul 30th, 2007, 04:04 PM You also get a tax receipt, although I'm not sure what the minimum is for that.
ehMax Jul 30th, 2007, 04:08 PM You also get a tax receipt, although I'm not sure what the minimum is for that.
Yes, the emailed a PDF out to me almost instantaneously. Tax receipts are sent with donations for $15 or more.
MissGulch Jul 30th, 2007, 08:51 PM I sent my monthly electricity savings to the cause. Better that charity get it, rather than the electric company.
ehMax Jul 30th, 2007, 08:51 PM $465. We're 15.5% there!
Thanks Heart!

It would REALLY mean a lot to me and my family. ;)
Beej Aug 1st, 2007, 08:07 PM I think that if a bunch of people can put in $40 or so each (~$30 net of the tax deduction) then you'll find yourself on target in no time.
There are lots of great discussions -- tame and otherwise -- around ehmac about how much more should be done for good causes. Here's an easy way to act on the wealth of posts, ehmacers!
The Doug Aug 1st, 2007, 08:23 PM I'll make a donation if you answer the PMs I sent you this week, eh? :)
Voyager Aug 1st, 2007, 08:36 PM I think that if a bunch of people can put in $40 or so each (~$30 net of the tax deduction) then you'll find yourself on target in no time.

Agree 100% Beej. MS can be an insidious, devastating disease.
ehMax Aug 1st, 2007, 10:30 PM I'll make a donation if you answer the PMs I sent you this week, eh? :)
Replied. :)

ehMax Aug 3rd, 2007, 02:55 PM Did you know ...
Canadians have one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis in the world.
MS is the most common neurological disease affecting young adults in Canada.
Every day, three more people in Canada are diagnosed with MS.
Women are more than three times as likely to develop MS as men.
MS can cause loss of balance, impaired speech, extreme fatigue, double vision and paralysis.
MS was first identified and described by a French neurologist, Dr. Jean-Martin Charcot, in 1868.
We don't know what causes MS but researchers are closer to finding the answer.

ehMax Aug 3rd, 2007, 07:19 PM $790!!!
Thanks Sonal!!!!
Today is pay-day for many people. How about a couple bucks tossed to a great cause!
My 9 year old is going to bike 50KM from crying out loud! :)
Dr.G. Aug 3rd, 2007, 09:28 PM Mr. Mayor, each year since 1991, on Sept. 25th, the day my mother died of MS, I donate $100 in her name to the MS Society here in Canada. This year, I sent this donation in your team pledge.
" "Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,''
The shade replied,
"If you seek for Eldorado!'' "
Dr.G. Aug 3rd, 2007, 09:36 PM If our honorable Mayor's pledge drive does not reach at least $1000 by sundown on Sunday, I shall send one of my doxie pups to her doom at Dr. Dworkis' Dungeon of Doxies. Here is a pic of the sweet face that will meet her horrible fate if more of you don't pledge. Remember, no pledge is too small to save this little pup ............ or to save someone from MS.
Dr.G. Aug 3rd, 2007, 09:38 PM Mr. Mayor, I assume we can pledge more than once? After the aforementioned offer/threat, I feel that I am not sure if I could part with Tootsie. Take a look at that face and you shall see what I mean. We shall see.
Bon chance, mon ami, on this excellent effort you and your family are making.

That is very touching Dr. G! :)
My wife and I know of a few people touched by MS, but do not know anyone really close.
As an appreciation to your support, my wife and I and our 3 kids will dedicate our ride to her honour.
Thanks for your pledge! :)

OH DEAR!!!!
Please people... save the pup! Save the pup! :lmao:
ehMax Aug 3rd, 2007, 10:27 PM Mr. Mayor, I assume we can pledge more than once? After the aforementioned offer/threat, I feel that I am not sure if I could part with Tootsie. Take a look at that face and you shall see what I mean. We shall see.
Bon chance, mon ami, on this excellent effort you and your family are making.
Yes, you may pledge as many times as you like.
I may put my dog Mojo up for ransom. ;) :D
Dr.G. Aug 4th, 2007, 09:49 AM "As an appreciation to your support, my wife and I and our 3 kids will dedicate our ride to her honour." Thank you, Mr. Mayor. I am sure my mother would be proud of what you and your family are doing. My mother taught me to ride a bike, so it is altogether fitting and proper that she might be remembered in this way.
Dr.G. Aug 4th, 2007, 09:50 AM "OH DEAR!!!!
Please people... save the pup! Save the pup!"
Yes, she is such a sweet little dear.
Dr.G. Aug 4th, 2007, 09:56 AM Mr. Mayor, I could not take the chance of seeing Little Tootsie being sent to that mad researcher, so I put in the necessary $110 in my mother's name to get you up to the $1000 mark. If you can ride in her name, her name will save our little puppy. Merci, mon ami.
ehMax Aug 4th, 2007, 12:30 PM Wow... thanks Dr. G!
The puppy lives! :love2: :love2:
If there is anything you'd like us to bring along the ride, let me know. ;)
A little thing I'm brining along... I'm going to be wearing the long sleeve shirt that MacNutt gave me as well.
============
We're now officially 1/3 the way there! 36 more days to go!
Dr.G. Aug 4th, 2007, 12:40 PM Thanks, ehMax. My mother was a believer in tossing a lucky penny into a body of water for luck. You might do this for us all. Paix, mon ami.
ehMax Aug 4th, 2007, 05:12 PM Thanks ErnstNL!
We're at $1025... 34%!
Dr.G. Aug 5th, 2007, 10:43 AM Onward and upward, ehMax. Excelsior.
Dr.G. Aug 13th, 2007, 09:37 PM Where are you now, Mr. Mayor?
Dr.G. Aug 13th, 2007, 09:38 PM $1175. You are getting there. Excelsior.
ehMax Aug 14th, 2007, 07:55 AM Excelsior!!!!!
We're creeping towards the half way point!
Please, Pledge Your Support (https://msors.mssociety.ca/Bike2007/SponsorTeam.aspx?&PID=976744&L=2)!
Dr.G. Aug 14th, 2007, 08:43 AM For anyone who makes a donation, the MS Society of Canada sends you an e-receipt within the hour of the donation. I usually have over $2000 of charitable donations each year, so these receipts are important to me.....just as MS and a finding a possible cure is important to me. Paix, mes amis.
Beauseant, Mr. Mayor. Be glorious in your ride.
The Doug Aug 14th, 2007, 12:52 PM Check your PMs, oh Mr. Mayor. :)
Beej Aug 14th, 2007, 08:05 PM I predict that you will pass $2000 by September 9th.
SINC Aug 14th, 2007, 08:31 PM I predict that you will pass $2000 by September 9th.
Me too. I tossed a brown one in the pot. Ride ehMax ride!
ehMax Aug 14th, 2007, 08:32 PM Check your PMs, oh Mr. Mayor. :)

I haven't released the secret fundraising weapons yet...
Just wait until I get my 3 daughters to start canvassing for pledges. They're good for at least $500. Mrs. ehMax has to hit her work circuit as well. :)
If ehMac.ca can get us to $2000 I bet they can get us the rest of the way there. :)
If you haven't done so yet... Please Pledge! (https://msors.mssociety.ca/Bike2007/SponsorTeam.aspx?&PID=976744&L=2)
Beej Aug 14th, 2007, 08:51 PM Well, if your family can do that then ehmacers should be able to push you past the halfway point tonight. Then it's on to $2k and, perhaps, a special youtube video from a rather tall bikini-clad singer. With a red and white toque. :)
Dr.G. Aug 14th, 2007, 08:53 PM Mr.Mayor, tell your daughters that I shall send out the last three remaining doxie pups we still have here. If they go door to door, and have people take one look at the sad eyes of the pups, they will open up their hearts and wallets to this grand cause.
Beej Aug 14th, 2007, 08:59 PM And I will send out the wolverines for the holdouts. beejacon
No wait, that's not in the spirit of giving. Can I send them out anyway?
Dr.G. Aug 14th, 2007, 09:13 PM Beej, as we all know, a wolverine will flee at the first sighting of a dachshund. So, let's stick to supporting this great cause and personal committment of our noble mayor, and leave the bloodshed for another thread. Paix, mon ami.
Beej Aug 14th, 2007, 09:22 PM While I am tempted to help ehmax raise money through some doxie vs wolverine fights, I would consider that to be a bad thing.
Still, if your doxies cannot raise as much as my wolvies...
Ehmax will hit $2k tonight, or this could be at anyone's door:

Note, that is not a threat. He makes a fine caesar and has great stories to entertain one's family with. Just be careful when you shake his hand. :)
SINC Aug 14th, 2007, 09:29 PM Double post, sorry.
SINC Aug 14th, 2007, 09:37 PM Note, that is not a threat. He makes a fine caesar and has great stories to entertain one's family with. Just be careful when you shake his hand. :)
Not nearly as good as my Caesars. I'll prove it when you are next on my turf, Beej. :D
Beej Aug 14th, 2007, 09:38 PM Regarding caesars? If so then Sinc, as you know, I take my analytically based opinions seriously. I will need multiple caesars from you to establish a proof. And some control cases from other mixers.
If this is what it takes then I pledge to down many caesars if ehmacers will donate to the cause. Pictures of the aftermath will require a significant donation. Censored pictures will require a lot more. beejacon
SINC Aug 14th, 2007, 09:43 PM Regarding caesars? If so then Sinc, as you know, I take my analytically based opinions seriously. I will need multiple caesars from you to establish a proof. And some control cases from other mixers.
I just returned from the Big Valley Jamboree last week where I just happen to be the undisputed Caesar mixing king of the campground. My fame has even reached the highest pinnacle of Edmonton morning radio as the best ever sampled by the morning host.
Sufficient quantity will not be a problem. As a matter of fact, I will prepare enough to keep you sufficiently suffonscified. :D
Beej Aug 14th, 2007, 09:57 PM $75 to end Sinc and Beej's irrelevant sidebar? Come on, that must be worth it to someone!
SINC Aug 14th, 2007, 10:00 PM Indeed and for a fine cause, I too will shut up.
ehMax Aug 15th, 2007, 06:47 PM WOW!!!
Someone gave us a nice bump! :yikes: :)
We're at $1725 - 58%
Beej Aug 16th, 2007, 05:28 PM Not much going on. Don't make Sinc and me start chatting again.*
*May or may not be a threat. You will never know.
Dr.G. Aug 16th, 2007, 06:04 PM Threat??? This is a job for Wonder Doxie. Just volunteered to canvas my area of St.John's for our local MS Society Chapter. Thought I would bring a doxie pup or two with me for the sympathy vote.......and donation.
Beej Aug 16th, 2007, 06:21 PM Remember ehmacers, only you and your donations can prevent random discussions about caesars and doxies from topping the forum for the next few weeks.
If not for yourself, then think about the confused newbies.
SINC Aug 16th, 2007, 06:27 PM Now you've got me confused, what's a newbie? :D
Beej Aug 16th, 2007, 06:30 PM Someone that makes a caesar using a hint of doxie slobber.
SINC Aug 16th, 2007, 06:36 PM Is that the secret ingredient everyone's been raving about?
Beej Aug 16th, 2007, 06:54 PM Wow, this discussion makes me want to donate again just to end it.
Come on ehmacers: I have seen lots of threads on on how much more "society" should do -- here's an opportunity to actually do more that is well tailored for lazy people, like myself. Ehmax and his family will sweat it out. Maybe if he pledges to use a painful gear the sadists will open up their wallets? ;)
And, as a bonus, you get a tax receipt worth probably about 20% to 50% of your donation and, implicitly, get some direct influence over where some of your tax dollars (the 20% to 50%) go.
Beej Aug 19th, 2007, 08:49 AM Ahem.
SINC Aug 19th, 2007, 09:15 AM Please don't get us started again. ;)
Beej Aug 24th, 2007, 08:32 AM You wanted us to start again?
SINC Aug 24th, 2007, 08:38 AM Not really, but maybe they do?
Dr.G. Aug 29th, 2007, 12:05 PM How is your bike training coming along, Mr. Mayor?
Beej Sep 3rd, 2007, 08:07 PM Fancy finding this on page 2.
SINC Sep 3rd, 2007, 09:23 PM Uh, oh. Should I start again?
Beej Sep 3rd, 2007, 09:24 PM Start what?
SINC Sep 3rd, 2007, 09:31 PM Well, that depends, which by the way I a NOT wearing, but back to the subject at hand, I don't have a pair of booster cables handy anyway.
I think. Or maybe not.
Bottom line is the uglier we make this, the more chance someone will buy us out, NON?
Beej Sep 3rd, 2007, 09:41 PM Oui. And, as a side note on the topic of backsides, Depends seem like an excellent timesaver for young and old alike. They also make your booty look fuller.
So, has it started?

Please get your pledges in!
Mrs. ehMax and my oldest daughter are not going to be able to do the biking tomorrow, so it will just be myself, my youngest in the trailer, and her older sister.

SINC Sep 9th, 2007, 01:45 PM Good luck to you and the family on your ride today Mr. Mayor. We who can't be there will stay back here and try and scare up a few more pledges for you.

ehMax Sep 10th, 2007, 11:52 PM Sorry for the late update.

Will send a personal thanks to all who pledged. :)
Dr.G. Sep 11th, 2007, 08:35 AM Kudos to you and your family for undertaking this for all of us. Paix, mon ami.
ehMax Sep 11th, 2007, 10:29 AM Kudos to you and your family for undertaking this for all of us. Paix, mon ami.
Hey Dr. G. We made a little video of us throwing a lucky penny into Lake Ontario. However, right now, everytime I try to import it into iPhoto, I get a message that the video is damaged. Which is odd, because I can watch the video on the camera.
I will try a few other ways to get it off the camera. :)
Dr.G. Sep 11th, 2007, 11:41 AM Mr. Mayor, knowing that you did this for my mom brings a smile to my face. Merci.
