My MacBook's LCD is dead. Now I want to re-install XP, but unfortunately, when booting for a fresh install, DOS doesn't recognize my external LCD, so I can't see what's going on.

OK, how do I get OS X to mirror the laptop's main display when installing?

I can't see what's going on :-(

Memorize the timing and key sequence and pray it works?

I don't really know, as the DOS install thing doesn't have drivers to output on a external monitor.. or is there?

The only thing I can think of is starting the machine with the lid closed. Maybe it will turn your external into the main display.. after which, you may be able to install Windows.

You'll need an external keyboard and mouse to do so.

This is just guessing.. and worth a shot I suppose. :)

From what I understand you have to turn the computer on, close the lid to put it to sleep and then wake it with an external USB keyboard. That's the only way I know

OS X works. Thanks, all.

Now to get XP working. I'm going to see if I can do it blindly, just hope that I don't reformat my new OS X partition :D
