: 30 hours of no powerin Toronto...
Lawrence Mar 3rd, 2007, 02:55 PM After calling Toronto Hydro so many times that they told us not to call them anymore,
Our power has just now been finally restored.
They fixed the problem in under 5 minutes, It was a small branch on a pole transformer.
Most of our neighbours that had cars and another place to go had already left...Fed up.
I went out and managed to snap off a few photographs of them while they removed the branch.
They saw me and when they finished they tooted their horns on their 3 boom trucks as they went by.
The heat is finally back on!!!...Yeah!!!
Dave :)
NBiBooker Mar 3rd, 2007, 03:35 PM Congrats. Sorry to hear about the long wait.
adagio Mar 3rd, 2007, 05:34 PM Yikes! If I had known I would have invited you to my place on Queen W. If it happens again just holler. ;)
MACSPECTRUM Mar 3rd, 2007, 07:44 PM those of us in the country usually have wood stoves and soon i'll have a battery backup / generator system since power outages due to weather are occurring more frequently and last longer
over the last 3 years the avg. power outage is about 24 hours
for those that rent and only have electric heat, have a backup plan of somewhere else to go
these outages are going to happen more often and last longer as our weather gets stranger
we may start to see real estate prices altered by who lives in on your street, city councillor, hydro employee, MPP, etc.
all of whom would get hydro hopping a lot faster

Macified Mar 3rd, 2007, 08:35 PM Glad your power is back on.
This past summer, after the weirdo storms in northern part of southern Ontario (cottage country), we waited almost a week to get power restored. Fortunately we have a newly built cottage with a wood burning fireplace and massive propane tank for stove and hot water heater. Sadly we have no generator to power the pump to get water out of the lake into the hot water heater. The day after the lines were re-activated another tree came down and took out our power for a couple hours (I was just lighting the BBQ when I heard and saw the big, old maple come down). By the time we called about the tree there were so many Hydro workers in the area that three trucks showed up about two hours after called. The line was repaired in about 20 minutes and they all dissappeared into the dark night.
We had a nice dinner by candlelight (cooked on the BBQ and propane stove) and watched a movie on my PowerBook. Great night.
wooglin Mar 5th, 2007, 12:35 PM Sounds like you got lucky.... (if you're in the same area as my boss)
Her juice was out for 30+ hours, and when it came back on fried her microwave, stove, fridge, clocks... almost everything plugged in with the exception of her new flatscreen TV.

I've heard of stuff like that happening,
Either due to a poor renovation or just an old electrical system.
We have a fairly modern electrical system. (It wasn't built by pirates)
