"Skype for Mac 2.0 goes gold today, which means that we’ve tested it, you’ve tested it and we all agree that it does a pretty good job. Download it now and video call your friends, family, colleagues or anyone else you’d like to see face to face. Remember not only does it work with other Mac users but it also works with Windows users too. That means even more people for you to video call with."

Oh, thanks for the great news. I tried the beta version and I must say it was pretty darn good...I had a pretty smooth video session with one of my friends continents away.

Skype works fairly well. It certainly beats any other Mac --> PC video chat I've tried.

It's still no iChat and I'd also love Apple to release something that works on the PC side.

I would much rather that Apple introduce functionality to communicate (text, audio, video) with users on the MSN and Yahoo! networks instead. This would mean that Mac users could use iChat and people on other networks wouldn't have to change their current IM client.

I agree. It would be tough to get Windows users to switch from either MSN or Yahoo.

Been using since beta. Must say, the best chat client out there for both platforms because of it's versatility. I'm surprised Skype hasn't caught on in North America like it has in Europe. If you have family overseas with a computer, it saves a lot on long distance bills ;-).

I'd rather iChat AV only be available for Mac users so those that invest in the Mac can reep the benefits of a great interface. I would only ask that they open the protocal up so we can chat with MSN and Skype users instead of only AOLers.

I use Skype every day to talk to my wife who lives in Ontario (I live in Edmonton AB), and I also use it at least once a week to talk to my family in India. Saves me a bunch on phone bills :)

Cheers

I just started using Skype 2.0 with audio/video to talk to a friend on Windows and it works great! The video is amazingly clear (clearer than I ever saw on MSN in my Windows days anyway).

We're gonna try it on Linux later...

Good stuff!

Gaaaaaaaa! No video for Linux! WTF?!

Ah well... Looks like I may use OpenWengoo instead... Video on ALL platforms:

Anyone out there recommend a reasonably priced web cam for use on a Intel iMac. It seems there are not very many Logitech web cams that are Mac compatible. The Mac iSight at $185 seems a little high to play with.

I have a new 24incher with built web cam and upgraded video. I need a web cam for my 82 yo friend with a Mac Mini.

Huh? I own a new iMac and it comes with a built-in webcam.
