Have you looked in about this mac to see if it is recognized? Not all manufacturers drives work in Apple HWD. with Apples OSs. What machine is it, what OS are you running? Some details might be helpful.

There was something you could install to allow "unsupported" drives to work with the iLife apps, but the name of it escapes me.

I'd reccommend using Pioneer drives as replacements where possible, they are mostly all supported by OSX directly as Apple uses them.

Guaranteed that this little app will sort all your problems out and no need to worry about trading for another drive. Works perfect with my LG drive that I bought last year.

I just received a GSA-H1ON LG DVDR in an external case that has both Firewire and USB. USB is recognized but Firewire is not. I've tried Patchburn but no luck. Any ideas?

Nice. Was looking at getting one of those drives. As for your Firewire issue, it could be related to a number of issues.... FW800 or 400? What machine and version of OS X are you running? Does the drive show up in system profiler when it's connected? Does the case have the Oxford 911/922 chipset?
On a side note, got my Logitech control centre software working finally. You should probably start a new thread for this too, so we aren't hijacking chemicald's! :)
