: Student looking to buy Macbook
We'reGonnaWin Aug 3rd, 2006, 03:32 PM I'm looking to finally ditch my old clamshell and get a Macbook!
I need something that can run BootCamp/Windows, so therefore the Macbooks are perfect.
Any Macbook cheaper than the Apple Store's retail price would be perfect.
I've looked at Craig's List; usedmac.ca and the Classified section here. And I'd prefer something local in the Vancouver area so I can inspect before buying, any other places I might try?
Local eBay sellers seem to not like local pickup or any arrangement like that so I'm wary.

AlephNull Aug 3rd, 2006, 08:00 PM I assume you've checked the Apple Education store, or a store at your university that'll give you the same discount? I saved a bunch and got to try out the macbook at my campus tech shop.
If you're a high school student.. bit trickier. You can still order off of the Education store, i'm sure you know someone with a valid university student number. And its not dishonest in my mind, you are a student, and deserve the same savings as a uni student.
Good Luck!
We'reGonnaWin Aug 4th, 2006, 03:00 AM Thanks everyone. Looks like BUySell and Oldmac don't have much in the way of Macbooks at all.
And I do have an Edu discount but I was hoping for possibly cheaper so I'm prepared to get a used one.

You are better off getting it new. Less headaches
We'reGonnaWin Aug 14th, 2006, 03:58 PM I'm taking the plunge!! I ordered a MacBook off of Apple.ca on Friday, how soon can I expect it to get to me? I'd like to get a chance to get used to it before work starts.
Jamesw Aug 14th, 2006, 10:52 PM I don't knw if I would recommend this but
ebay.com
macrumors.com
ehmac.ca
usedmac.ca
cpused.com
or refurb'd from the store?
greensuperman32 Aug 14th, 2006, 11:18 PM out of curiosity, how much cheaper are the say base model macbooks on the apple education store for university/college students?
j3tang Aug 14th, 2006, 11:35 PM the macbooks without the discount are $1249, 1449, and 1649 for the base models, as compared to $1199, 1349, 1549 with the educational discount.
mycatsnameis Aug 15th, 2006, 12:11 AM I think it was a bit unrealistic to expect there to be a significant used market for a machine that was only released a couple of months ago. You'd have been better off waiting for refurb'd models on the online Apple store. Incidentally, these can also be accessed through the education store online store although the discounts are no different on refurb'd models for edu vs retail buyers.
Even those take time to show up in the system and, for e.g. there are refurb'd deals on the MBP but not the MB currently in Canada. To estimate the savings for when these would show up in Canada, the cheapest MB available on the US store is $1099 for a 2 gHz white model ($200 US discount).
applebook Aug 17th, 2006, 03:36 AM The MBP is sometimes on Craigslist Vancouver for significant discounts. A few months ago, I was able to get a brand new, sealed 1.83 with receipt for only $1650 CAD :D
NBiBooker Aug 17th, 2006, 09:20 AM Good luck with the MacBook, it's a fantastic little machine.
tonjesml Jul 12th, 2007, 01:35 PM I am selling a 15" Macbook Pro 2.16 Ghz 1 GB memory with 120 GB drive space. This also comes along with the original wall adapter/charger, the documentation and initial setup discs, as well as an extra Macbook Battery. I am looking for $1800.00 and am willing to throw in a 2GB Ipod Nano with the deal. I'm from Michigan in the Detroit area. Let me know if you are interested. This computer is a year old and in very good condition.
