: Sound Distortion on Mac mini

Hi all,

I recently connected my Apple Pro Speakers to my G4 Mac mini with a Griffin iFire adaptor. Ever since, even with the volume muted, the speakers fizzle and pop. if the firewire alone is connected, there is of course no sound, but also no fuzzy noise. Same vice-versa. Can someone help?

Thanks

p.s. I think I speak for anyone who's ever asked for help here when I say that I don't want any non-help. You people know who you are and what you've done ("Basically, you're SOL"). And by the way, what does "SOL" even mean? I have an idea, but it still makes no sense! Please explain!

Thanks, once again.

SOL - **** Outta Luck ;)

Try connecting the speakers into another Mac (without the iFire) and see if the distortion persists - if it does, time to replace the speakers.

Lars. Apple Pro Speakers require the iFire, unless you have the correct jack... as found on iMac G4

My Altec Lansing speakers crackle if set too close to the mini. Maybe the placement of the bluetooth or airport antenna creating some interference. I can't seem to get the speakers within about 1 foot from the mini.

try different combinations of different power outlets in your room or home. either that, or the interference is coming from a CRT.

My mini is used with a CRT so it's possible the interference is coming from that source. Can't comment on beagleguys setup.
