Hi,

Best Buy currently has a 200 Gig Maxtor Ultra for 89,99$, real price (meaning no post rebate stupid thing), which would greatly complement my current pretty full 20,5 gig drive.

I was looking into the case though , and cant figure out the best way to secure a second hard drive. I have neve done it before (replaced a clamshell HD which was a PITA though), so any help would be appreciated.

I plan on pretty much use the new drive as:

1) iTunes Server
2) iPhoto storage
3) iMovie storage

That's it. How would you recommend:

1) Hardware setup ?
2) Software setup ?

Thanks !

You'll need an ATA-133 PCI card in order for your Mac to use all 200 gb,
As for where and how to install it you can look at these video's over at OWC:

ATA-133 card example:

I have the Sonnet ATA-133 card in my Sawtooth.

Thank you....

Quite easy, and nice site too..

Now another newbie question.,.

Can I use any ATA 133 PCI card, or should I use one designed for Apple. There are so many things out there that are branded for PC only (such as my Linksys router) and work flawlessely on a Mac, that I wont spend 100$ on a SOnnet card if I can buy one at 40$ from Compusa for example.

Thanks

Trouble is...They won't work, They have to be made for Apple computers.
You could always just install the 200 gb hard drive without the ATA 133 controller,
But you'd most likely only get to use about 137 gb of it, Less after formatting.

You could just put the 200 gb hard drive into an external Firewire case.

Skip the card - buy an external FW case for the drive. You'll want a Oxford 911 case for that era computer.

Hi Mac Doc,

I am listening....Checked out the Oxford on your website....One question though, Why would you go external ? I managed to find a Sonnet card for 69$ Canadian BTW.

Nevermind, I found it, It's a Sonnet RAID card right?
"Sonnet Tempo RAID 133 IDE PCI Card (Open box)"

Don't worry...I'd let you buy it before I posted a link.

Don't forget to check the Sonnet website for any firmware updates.
