: Finder seizing up

This evening I've been copying a bunch of photos into burn folders to put on DVD and I've had an odd thing happen, with a couple variations. Finder seems to lock up and I have to control-click Finder in the dock and relaunch it. Some times the progress bar moves part way, showing that files are being copied, and then stops. Other times it just sits there as if no files have been copied. When I relaunch, a couple times the files had actually been copied, even though no progress had been shown. Other times I relaunch and find only a few files have gone. I've let it sit for 10 minutes, just to see if it would finish.

I was copying quite a lot (2+ GB) but I also had it happen with smaller copies (approx. 100 MB) Also, the fans run quite a bit faster during this operation than they usually do.

I'm running 10.4.3 on a G5 iMac.

Any ideas?
